Woke up to the news about Tropical Storm Sally--projected to become a CAT 2 hurricane before landfall somewhere in the Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama area (though Florida will feel impacts).

This seems so surreal----people are still recovering from Laura.

My heart goes out to all of these residents.

NOLA area here. We were awakened at 3:30 am by the phones screeching the emergency warning siren. This was because the path and speed had shifted some, putting us right in the middle of the cone.

Of course, we went through this just a short time ago and were spared any impact as SW Louisiana was devastated instead. You have to do all of the prep without knowing exactly where the hurricane will go. So we're battening down the hatches again.

Please say a prayer for us that it is only a CAT 1, could be a 2 or higher depending how long it stays over water.

Hubby didin't listen to me and go down and prep his boat since it looked like it was heading west, but now looks like it's hitting head-on. Not really sure what else he could've done since his prep for the last hurricane though. He just told me to expect him to go this weekend to see what if anything is left. I think the surge and flooding will be the biggest problem. If the lines are too loose, the wind can blow it around and hit things; if they're too tight, it can't rise with the flooding and will then sink. He actually moved it to a spot inland for Katrina, and even though it was in the middle of a swamp, someone broke into it and stole the electronics.

It's just my two cents because you sound so stressed and I saw your other post that your mother fell. It's my unsolicited advice and is just meant as a suggestion from a place of concern and affection toward you:

I think you should limit your exposure to topics like this one for now. You have enough going on. The rest of us can worry about the fires and the world and the storms and the problems for you. You just take care of yourself and your mom as best you can -- and ask for lots of help from the people around you, even those you don't know but who are local to you and her. The rest of the world's problems are not your job right now.

When I'm really stressed out, I tend to go very global and am extra sensitive to all the ills of the world, all the woe. I notice all of it and it hurts me all the more. But that's the worst time for me to concentrate on storms and fires. I have nothing to offer the situation and I am weakened by it. Under stress, I need to make myself the priority so I can handle the actual real world things I need to do. Everybody else's problems, at that moment, are just distractions that dilute my strength.

That is when I pull back to my personal center where I am eternally safe and protected. What I believe is enduring and forever, I center myself in that. Nothing can harm me there. And from there is the best place to handle what I see in front of me. One step at a time, moment by moment, breath by breath, one foot in front of the other.
