How Do You Sign Your Name?

This morning I ran into a woman I hadn't seen in a few years. It reminded me that she always signs everything Mrs. Richard XXXX. Never Susan XXXXX. She gave me a check once and the checks were printed Richard XXXX and Mrs. Richard XXXX.

It was quite awhile before I knew her first name.

DH and I had checks printed as George C. XXX and Jane A. XXX (my DH last name.) I signed Jane A. XXX

I was happy and proud to be married to my DH but I do have a name.

How do you sign things?.

Went back to my maiden name when I dumped the mister back in 1999. Even during the marriage of 18 years I did not go by Mrs.

When I married I replaced my middle name with my maiden on all legal documents so it was an easy adjustment after the Judge entered his order of my request to go back to my previous last name.

With First & Last name. Never have used Mrs. Makes me sound like some old lady. No Thanks.

I remember the few times my Mother's picture along with a few others were in our small local newspaper for some event, the were all identified the same way. Mrs. John Smith. Never by their own names. This was in the late fifties, early sixties.

I never thought of this before, but I wonder if it’s legal to sign a name like that. Documents don’t always use titles like Mr or Mrs, just the name, in which case it isn’t her name.

I always sign my checks/documents using my name.

It depends what I'm signing. I use my maiden name in professional settings and married name socially.

I sign my name like you do. Martha L. Washington. My name my signiture. In years to come, I might need to be using my own name, so I consider this as being consistant.

Of course, that's not my real name before anyone gets nervous.

I only use Mr. & Mrs. like visiting a place to sign in. Funeral homes, places we've visited on vacations, that sort of thing.

Married late 70s - never signed Mrs. and never signed hubs' name instead of mine. Never even signed Ms, which was an upgrade from Mrs. Daughter and I laugh. Single daughter said she loves her last name and how it flows with her first name. Not changing it. But she has dated some guys with difficult to spell or wonky last names. The last boyfriend had 4 syllables!

I never refer to myself as Mrs. All my son's friends call me by my first name,per my request.I sign my name using my first name, maiden name - married name.

I kept my maiden name because I believe that it identifies me as an individual in my own right.I was me before I happily became part of a we. DH has no problem with it whatsoever.

I sign my name as it is spelled on my birth certificate. Always have even when I was married.

To me using Mrs. and husbands first name seems outdated....

Whats strange to me is would that be acceptable from a legal standpoint.... What if God forbid he passed away and her full name wasn't on the Bank Account, she was listed soley as Mrs. So&SO. It was strange the bank didnt make each of them show their first names on the checks.....

I haven't run into "Mrs. Richard Doe" for decades, other than the occasional wedding invite addressed to "Mr. and Mrs. Richard Doe". It is so old fashioned!

Who signs their name using Mr. or Mrs. or even Dr.? Most people sign their name and put their degrees at the end, if they feel the need to use them. But Mr. or Mrs.? I've never seen a signature written with either of those.

really did not use the term MRS.

always sign my name first name, last name that i was born with.

never took my husbands last name.

sometimes i will include my middle initial.

It depends on what I am signing or have my name on.

Legal papers I sign with my first name, middle initial,maiden last name and married last name.

On bank checks I have only printed my first name initial, my middle initial, my maiden last name initial and married name and sign the checks the same way.

On credit cards I usually have only my first name initial and last name.

License first and last name.

Do not use Mr. or Mrs.

I've signed things Mr. and Mrs. His Name at times. (Funeral guest book, bed and breakfast, flowers for his employees, etc.)

Have some address labels made up that way, too. Not all, but some.

Love my name, love his name. Don't give a sheet what anyone else thinks.

That's so weird you didn't know her first name for a long time.

Didn't you or she introduce yourself when you first met? I always introduce myself (first name and sometimes first and last name--depends).

So you had actually made a monetary transaction with someone and didn't know her first name?

And any and all other times you saw her--never thought to introduce yourself?

Weird.

First name, middle initial, last name - DH deceased - had my name legally changed back to maiden name.

I never identified myself as "Mrs. John Doe." I was simply Mary Doe.

I've been married for 43 years and have never used Mrs or Ms on anything. I don't want to be referred to as Mrs either and I know if someone calls me by Mrs they don't know me. I also will not use my maiden name as my middle name. I hate my maiden name. It's just a horrible name subject to lots of teasing when I was a kid so I was glad to get married to someone with a normal last name.
