Anyone else notice higher prices?

I was looking through some items on QVC and was to see how much prices have gone up. I bought some holiday items last year from VPH and the identical ones are being sold now for at least 20% higher.

Same with clothing. Tops from some lines that used to be in the $35-45 range are now $50+.

I wonder if it's higher tarriffs or if the pandemic had something to do with this.

Groceries are what I have noticed have skyrocketed in price.I think I am paying almost a third more for the same items I was buying in January. If this keeps up at this pace I won't have to do any dieting.....I won't be able to afford food.

@silkyk You've taken the thoughts right out of my head! By the end of February I'd already decided I was done clothes shopping for the rest of 2020, so I really haven't paid all that much attention to those prices, but the food prices stun me almost every time I head to the supermarket.

The price on everything has gone up. Where I work (worked- retiring in 16 days) we wore a uniform so I didn't pay for clothes but hubby and I socialized a lot with people from work so we dressed nicely. No more. Been teleworking since March 15 so have been saving about $75 per week on gas.

In exchange groceries have gone up a LOT. Because I am not buying much other that groceries and meds and a few odds and ends, I haven't noticed the prices going up but it is totally understandable.

I don't buy a great deal here any more, but do check things out and yes, I've noted what appear to be some big prices for things I don't personally find to be worth it... I've also noted some significantly higher prices elsewhere, so it isn't just here... I don't know the reasons, and while there might be some legitimate reasons for some of the prices we're seeing, I do think some merchants are taking advantage of supply chain issues related to the pandemic, which I find so unfortunate...

After purchasing for many years, my budget can no longer afford Susan Graver clothing. Just a thin simple top $50, yikes! I buy her line off of ebay these days. There are some affordable prices, and so far good quality.

@busymom22 Prices have been going up all year for a number of reasons. And in all businesses, not just QVC.

@busymom22 Retailers realized a lot of extra expenses due to the pandemic. It's completely predictable that they'd pass most of it on to the consumer. Just the increase in their unemployment tax liability to cover the state portion of unemployment benefits must be staggering.

@Kachina624 I do believe you're right. In my extended family, there are 4 who run their own businesses. The oldest of the 4 sold his business - felt it would not be profitable again until well after the virus is under control; the restaurant owner has not re-opened for anything but take-out - says the required changes to open indoors wouldn't allow for profit; and the other two who are somewhat younger have plunged into new business ventures, both feeling the new normal wouldn't be pretty for what they had been doing.

There was a sign in front of the Shop Rite grocery where I shop. Every employee was given an additional $3/hour from March through July. So that additional payroll cost has to be paid. And grocery stores do not operate with a large profit margin.

Plus having plexiglass installed at each register. And employing an additional person to make sure everyone is wearing a mask before they enter the store. And cleaning the grocery carts. All additional expenses for the store.

The prices on QVC are high. I noticed it the past couple of years, not just since March/virus. Denim & Co used to be the most reasonably priced, but not anymore. You can shop online or retail stores and find much better prices.

I haven't noticed any drastic differences in grocery prices here.

I have noticed an increase in food prices and a decrease in gas prices in my area. Problem is I'm eating more and driving less. I'm interested in seeing how things will look a year from now. Interesting how quickly things can change in life.

Everything seems to go up each day. Clothes, Make Up, Jewelry, Cars, Groceries etc. Some like Real Estate was created to go up. While everything goes up, the dollar shrinks. Paper money is getting worthless each day. They constantly have to print more money everyday.

Food shopping today made my jaw drop (I’m in CA) Paid $5.89 for a loaf of bread, just grocery store variety off the shelf. Spent more than ever overall, who is profiting from these prices I wonder?

Beauty salons sure are trying to make up for lost time due to the virus.

express cut used to be like 12-15. I went in today at Walmart and told the gal just wanted the top of my hair cut because I wanted to make it more spikey. The rest didn't need cutting because just had it cut couple weeks ago.

She charged me 20 ! Yikes !

No shampoo, just washed it that morning. She cut just the top and sold me a tube of gel to help make it spikey cost me 27

Yep, salons are trying to make up for lost time.

Being retired and on a fixed income, the fact that QVC and other retailers are indeed raising their prices doesn't concern me nearly as much as how fast prices are rising on groceries. I can shop my closet and never wear the same thing twice for the next year.

Unfortunately, food is a different story.

Just putting this out there, do with it what you will, but we were advised to start now stocking up on supplies. If you are fortunate enough to have a freestanding freezer, use your space wisely. If you can, buy a few extra things each time you go to the grocery store either canned items or something you can freeze. And, there are many things that you can freeze that you don't realize.

I used to go to a grocery store a few times a week and now I have a grocery delivery every Friday. Somehow I have more food than I know what to do with.
