Target has different options. Pickup is not curbside pickup. It's going to service desk and pickup. For curbside brought to your car you need to chose the Drive Up option.

I just finished signing up for the Target App because it's a requirement for drive up pick up of groceries. I feel like I wasted my time because fresh fruit, frozen fruit and ground beef were the first items I looked at to order but none of these categories are available for drive up. I'd have to shop in store to get them. This really disappointed me. The prices for items were much better than Publix when using Instacart for delivery. I was hoping to save money this way and still avoid contact to shop safely.

From what I've read some of those services reserve the right to 'substitute' some items you may have on your list.

Some of those 'substitutions' that I've read about online are pretty funny, compared to what they were substitutes for.

I have no personal experience with those services, so I only know what I've read about.

I'm not surprised. Target is somewhat reliable for run of the mill products but even b.c. (before covid...) I could have never done a full grocery run at Target. Their pickings are just too meager. Some of that is probably related to my local store, which is among the worst Target stores I've seen, but the larger factor seems to be that Target simply has not jumped into the grocery business with both feet, which is fine by me. I'm tired of everyone thinking they need to be a grocery store.

All that said, I've also noted that Target is also very picky about what they'll ship and what they won't and so much is, once again, related to your zip code and to your 'home' store. It's also interesting that they offer shipping and they offer delivery and they are not the same thing. I don't know. Sometimes I think Target is trying too hard to be all things to all people and is thus falling short in all categories. And, once again, so much depends on your specific Target and you know, it really shouldn't be that way.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.

I've not done order pick up. I've been having mostly deliveries since March, though I have ventured into the store a few times recently. I've found Amazon Fresh delivery to be somewhat limited, but I always know exactly what I'm going to get, which is a real asset, and if I time my order well, can usually make do with their somewhat limited options. I also like that ordering over $35 means it's a free service for me, which might (or might not, I honestly don't know) have something to do with Prime membership.

With some delivery services and some stores, it's going to be a guessing game as to what arrives. I like that I can suggest substitutions with both Safeway and Giant and don't have to deal with Instacart or their mark-ups to do so. I also don't want to be hounded by a shopper by text. If you need me to clarify my wishes, call me. The texting was completely ludicrous at the front end of these supply chain issues when I might get as many as thirty texts in one shopping expedition, which is just ridiculous. That was both the beginning and the end of my Instacart experience.

I've used Walmart app for online grocery pickup since it began here.
Yes, I've had a few ?? subs but the girls I have gotten to know say the picker goes by what the computer offers them 4 sub.You can always decline. My produce & dated products have always been fine.
Yes, sometimes selections can be out but more good than bad.

I hate grocery shopping so the free service is great for me.And put in trunk for me and sometimes a nice goodie bag! So no one is gonna be perfect in picking your items but they do fine by me.
Especially in a downpour!

Instacart allows you to pick a replacement or state that you don't want one. And you can chat with the shopper.

Amazon has none of those options, but then I think their system might include knowing the warehouse inventory because I have always received what I ordered.

@suzyQ3 @I use Instacart all the time but they are charging more for each item. My last order was the highest I've ever spent for groceries in my life. Instacart is really jacking up the prices. I thought the drive up was going to be an easy alternative. There is no charge for drive up and there are no surcharges added to the price of the food. Too bad they are not including the food I want to buy. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

@Mindy D, I've heard this, and I see it with some markets. But the one I've chosen the most seems to be close in price to the store itself. In any case, we're certainly paying for the convenience -- the monthly or yearly fee, the small service charge, and the big tips!

@Mindy D

I can highly recommend WalMart grocery pickup. And there is no charge once you reach $35. Good quality and better prices than Publix.

I haven’t shopped at Publix since mid-March because I don’t want to pay extra to have someone pick my groceries. As much as I loved it, I don’t miss shopping at Publix at all.

I get almost everything I need from WM. Sometimes something is out of stock so I don’t get it but, if I keep checking the app, I can see when it is back in stock and order right away but I usually just wait until next week. I don’t want my items to be substituted so I just uncheck the box to allow them.

A couple things I use are carried at Target so I place an order about once a month.

I absolutely love WM grocery pickup! I wasn’t even parked yet today and I saw the gal bringing my things out the door!

Target curbside is only good for shelf, or canned groceries. So if you forgot that can of baked beans, box of rice, salad dressing, or canned beverages you add those to your cart. Plus the clothing and household items. What's great is that orders are ready in couple of hours rather than days.

But not being able to get fresh fruit, dairy, or frozen items is a drawback. Some Targets near me are now open until 10:00pm. I've found if I run in around 9:20pm and grab what I want in the twenty minutes I'm there I've seen maybe 15 other customer.

I've never had a problem with any Walmart substitutions. My complaint with them is how soon items are to their expiration dates. Some expiring that date or with a couple of days. Back when I shopped in stores I checked expiration dates on everything.
