Wonder if actors regret.....

Watching reruns of Sex in the city....SJP's son is probably in late teens...I wonder if she regrets some of the scenes in that show.

I know as a mom...I woud not want my son/daughter to watch me....and the thought of my child getting abuse from classmates about his mom...well i was just wondering if there was regret.

Cannot unring the bell.....

No. They are mostly very proud of what they do, did, have done it seems to me. With or without the aid of clothing.

I 'I'm sure that her son knows that his mom is an actor and "Carrie" was just a character that she played.

Doubt that the kid is scarred for life and is in counselling because of "Sex and the City".

What’s wrong with Sex and the City? Nothing there to be ashamed of. I would be proud of it was part of the show. It’s funny and well done. Is this another thread to bash actors? I have some friends who are actors. They are hard working and have friends and families just like everyone else.

I'm pretty sure these kids grow up knowing Mom and Dad play make believe for a living.

Thora Birch, who played Harrison Ford's daughter in Patroit Games and Clear and Present Danger, is the daughter of 2 former adult movie actors. Now that's a case of when you don't want to see/shouldn't see your parents movies.

Many people have done many things that they can't unring a bell for. Illegal, immoral, unethical. and criminal things. And they actually did these things, they weren't acting.

I know that Sarah Jessica Parker comes from very humble beginnings. She keeps her children out of the spotlight. I follow her on Instagram, she seems like a lovely person. She actually responds to comments on there, most celebs don't and some have people who do their social media.

She posted condolences to me regarding the deaths of both of my parents. She is an avid book reader. She works some days in her shoe store in NYC, and even delivers purchases to customers herself. From what I know of her I bet she's a very good Mom. Of course that's none of my business anyway.

I concern myself with what public figures actually do and have done. Not with roles they've acted out in movies plays and tv.

I have just starting watching some of the episodes. I never watched in the 90's. I can't say I think it's great acting nor great drama. It has some funny lines and amusing stereotypes. I think there is a lot of indiscriminate sex in an era that was acutely aware of HIV, with not much attention paid to safe sex on the show. Perhaps one episode mentioned it. There is also hooking up with strangers in bars for a one night stand. Risky behavior. I think of the movie Looking For Mr. Goodbar and what happened at the end of that film. Same thing has happened in real life with victims. Before the bashing of my post occurs, I'll just say that I don't think I missed much not watching in the 90's, but it fills a gap of mindless entertainment if I can't get to sleep.

I think most of the time the kids don't really care to see old stuff.

I know Catherine Bell said recently that her son was curious about JAG and asked to watch it. She was asking for episodes that would be appropriate for like a 9 year old (lots of murders and her in peril on that show, she was was looking for something that would not freak him out LOL)

I enjoyed Sex in the City and kudo's to SJP for never doing a nude scene. I'm sure the kids will be fine.

I think that most actors have already had a talk with their children regarding the parts that they play. I also think that most children really have no interest in seeing their parents on screen.

I wouldn't be upset or embarrassed if my family had some actors. They are just that 'actors'. Now if I had some family members in the Mob, I would definitely be embarrassed.

@ProudMa, I think it's a neat philosophical discussion-- personally, I'm in agreement with you in general terms. I admire actors (or professionals in any field) who, for whatever reason, have boundaries beyond which they will not go. Those boundaries are going to be different for different people.

Two actors always come to mind when I think of this: Steven Hill is one. He was a devout Orthodox Jew and very interesting theater, film and TV actor. He had a dynamism and electric talent that garnered him a huge amount of attention as a young man.

When the "Mission Impossible" television show started up, he was cast in the lead, with the provision that he be allowed to stop work on Fridays in time for the Sabbath at sundown. After one year, the producers were apparently no longer interested in honoring the agreement, trying to get him to work longer on Fridays. He left the show. I have no doubt that his scruples were career damaging, over the long term, and he "came and went" in the industry after that.

Patrick McGoohan was a Brit who happened to be a devoted Catholic, and was known for refusing explicit love scenes in deference to his faith and his wife. That too, must have cost him, b/c in his salad days he was very magnetic and appealing 'leading man' material! Like Steven Hill, he still eked out a decent career, but probably not to the extent he could have.

It's a personal choice. I really respect those men.

When I read what terrible situations some of the former child stars end up dealing with, it just makes me understand why so many Hollywood people have discouraged their own kids from going into the business.

@Oznell Yes, Steven Hill was from our area and was always known around here as being very devout and very well liked.

I see pictures of many actors and their families headed to Church on Sundays. Just because you make movies doesn't mean you can't live a normal life.

If a classmate is going to abuse your child, they don't need an excuse.

They can pick on absolutely anything or just make something up. Choosing a career path before a child is even born, just to appease imaginary school bullies from the future would be silly.

@Oznell Interesting about the two actors you mentioned. I admire people who put their faith and beliefs first. Even if it *costs* them or is the *unpopular* POV.

Recently a poster here said that she was against the death penalty because of her religion. It's empowering to say that.

I've followed the path of my faith for all my life, it will never change.

'In general', actors are acting. All sorts of character roles.

From bad to good (characters).

It's their career. It's entertainment.
