There Is One In Every Crowd.

DD ran into the Dollar Store for 4 things. She was 4th in line with 5 or 6 folks behind her.

There was 1 clerk so she was swamped and going as fast as she could. Of course, the 1st woman not only had coupons, she wanted stuff rung up separately. Of course, she did.

A man behind DD yelled about the slow clerk and the girl said, "I'm sorry, but I'm alone, the other girl had to leave."

DD felt bad for her and the poor girl apologized to everyone as they got to checkout. Everyone told her is was okay, not her fault, except for the guy that hollered.

Yes, I get someone might be in a hurry but yipping at a clerk doing her best doesn't help.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 I hate it when customers act like that.

I've been in line a few times when some rude jerk does that and I turn around and say "Hey he/she is doing the best they can. No need to be nasty."

I'm lucky, no one ever yelled back at me (I never yelled my response). I always feel badly for a retail employee who has to put up with this kind of crappola.

Now days you have to be careful attempting to redirect someone (even if you do so nicely) who is being inappropriate. You can provoke attack. Far too many people seem coiled and ready to strike.

Store clerks have one of the toughest jobs around. I stood behind a lady (who was eventually proved wrong) claiming her item was marked at a lower price. Even the clerks with an attitude get a "thank you, have a good day" from me.

In the grocery store I say thank you to the cashier as well as the person bagging.

Sometimes people who serve others are not so nice but then again sometimes the individuals they service are not nice either.

The old rule of saying thank you and your welcome maybe should be heard more.

@chiclets I do the same! I also say "thank you" to the one cashier I try to avoid whenever I can because he's a grouch but I figure it can't hurt to be nice, right?

It certainly wasn't the cashiers fault the woman in the front of the line had coupons and was paying for things separately.

The ringing items up separately reminded me of working in a restaurant for 8 yrs.

We had a group of professional women comes in 2x a year. 8 to 10 people. Of course, it was separate checks. Then they all proceeded to order the same exact thing. Water, tea or coffee and the same chicken dish. No drinks, no appetizers or dessert tp compute. If you got tea or coffee your bill was 50 cents more (1980s).

Every time for years, same thing. Really, divide the bill by 8 or 10 people and the tea/coffee crowd throws in 50 extra cents. To this day I remember meal was $8.95.

One of their visits was around Christmas when it was very busy.

A table of men would get one check, look at it and throw some money in. Done, end of story.

Actually since the man was behind DD, she doesn't know if he apologized or not. She ASSUMED he didn't. Next time she shouldn't tell you stories she doesn't know the ending to

Occasionally I'll stop at Dollar Tree if I'm in the area - not for anything in particular, just to look around. Invariably, there is only one cashier and a long line. And I'll decide I didn't need that candy bar or bag of chips after all and walk out the door empty-handed.

Sadly I have become a right Bi**h these days. But only because courtesy is Dead.

A few weeks ago I was caught walking in a wicked wind and rain storm. There was one man walking up ahead of me. The wind was blowing the branches off the trees and one large branch had come down across MOST of the sidewalk. The only branch down on the whole street. WELL didn't this man stop RIGHT BESIDE that branch Blocking the sidewalk and start taliking on his phone. Now, remember it's raining and the wind is blowing. When I got up to this fellow I said. "Excuse me, may I pass." and yes i really do speak that way. He looked at me like I had 2 heads. " the branch is blocking the sidewalk, excuse me, may I get by?" His response? "Walk OVER it." I was shocked. I never would have thought anyone would say that as a solution! I admit I lost my temper, asking him why I had to step over a tree branch in the rain and wind that could possibly trip me up when , if he could just take a step or two I could get by and be on my way. That is when I found out I was a Bi**h, he TOLD me so. So in the pouring rain and wind... I LiVED UP TO IT. He got a blue earfull and got out of my way. Further up the street I ducked into a bus shelter to let the rain subside. He came up to the shelter and I motioned for him to keep on walking. He seemed a bit more contrite and said 'Some of us are having a bad day." I nodded. I was walking in the wild weather too and had my own troubles that day which I kept to myself. He walkied on. I wonder if whoever was on the other end of that call heard our exchange and pointed a few things out to him.

Not to be uncharitable, and I know he may have had hard news on that phone call, but the whole bad business, for us BOTH, could have been avoided had common courtesy been employed.

I was parked in front of my house, I was in my car. A car comes down the block from a driving school, I then pull out and am behind the car. My corner is very hard to see traffic you have to inch your way out to turn ( you can't go straight). So I realize this person is learning to drive so I'm patient we were all new at some time. This guy behind me starts to beep his horn. This irritates me as the car in front probably thought it was me. We all turn right, then at the end of the block the guy beeps his horn again! If you're in that much of a hurry leave earlier, he was an idiot.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 I am one of those people who will take up for the underdog before I will take up for myself. I cannot stand behavior such as this and would have said something to this rude person. Not smart I know, it's just instinctive. You see rudeness and meaness directed to the defensless more and more these days. My children and my husband swear that someone is just going to lay me out one of these days.
