Maybe now might be Countess, anyway, any one know why she rejected the gift of a 1.5 million dollar home from the Queen when they got married ?

Can't find anything related to the rejection of the Queen's gift.

The home was given to both girls before they were married years ago. However, Sarah felt that they wouldn't be able to keep up with the expenses and therefore told them not to accept the property.

Yeah, from what I can glean it's got to do with costs of hired help and maintenance and the 2 sisters go between the other homes and I would assume with Beatrice husband being Italian she will be going there, too.

Just struck me as unusual that anybody would turn down a home.

Everything is expensive to maintain I guess no matter who you are.

Maybe because they are adults who know what they need, want, can afford, and can keep up with. Wouldn't that be nice to hear?

I believe an offer was made to the two girls about 20 years ago in or around 1997 and reasons for rejection girls could not afford upkeep then. Old news.

Was there another offer now since marriage? Have not seen anything about new offer.

She and her sister were gifted the home when they were nine and ten years old. It was sold due to the cost of the upkeep of it. The money was put into a trust for them. This is what was reported about it. The media tries to put spins on things to make headlines.

Sarah learned her lessons about financial difficulties the hard way. She's now savvy and didn't want her daughters to become burdened with the high maintenance and expenses of shared ownership of such an expensive old home. It was sold and the money put into trusts which has been earning interest all these years. Wise advice provided by Sarah when they were far too young to own a home. (What was Queen Elizabeth thinking?) At this point, both girls have married well and can live wherever they want without being encumbered with a joint, very expensive home to maintain. Yea, Sarah!

Beatrice married into lot of money, so, she can live in probably an Italian fancy villa, mansion, etc.

Taxes are horrible in England. Upkeep is just asbad. Income taxes are high aswell Thats why thestomes, paul mccartney and the lot stay here half year. Taxes in high income can run up to 90%.

That is so true. My favorite actor the guy who done Hannibal Lector can't think of his name, too early LOL Anyway, he bought a place in Cal. and goes back and forth. They got socialized medicine over there probably why their taxes are so high. Course, the Royals have to be supported, but, I think that's justified they earn their keep. Queen is still working at 94 you give up your private life, etc. I wouldn't want to be Royal.

@Sage04 yeah, I thought it was a recent gift. News media is horrible they report old stuff, keep reporting only the bad stuff here in the states, every morning more gloom and doom.

So, now, LOL what did she give them ? If not, a house, wonder what the real wedding present was ?
