When I got my Census form a couple of months ago I filled it out online immediately. In a few weeks I got another form in the mail, and now today (according to my "informed delivery" email from the post office) I'm getting another one. It says "required by law" in bold letters.

Do they just keep sending them out? Do they think I haven't filled it out?

After I filled out the form online I stopped receiving the reminders. Did you happen to keep your confirmation number when you completed the online form?

@jackthebear I don't know. I'll read it carefully when I receive it today. I signed up for Informed Delivery from the post office. I get an email showing me all of the mail I'll get for the day. The Census form is in today's mail.

@jackthebear @NickNack I don't believe there are more questions coming - pretty sure that got shot down. As for the repeat forms, between the virus and some political stuff the response in some areas has been low and before they send out in-person workers they'll just keep on mailing. The more accurate the responses, the more accurate the federal dollars that flow to your area and the more accurate your representation in Congress , etc. It's probably close to impossible to reprogram the computers comes in - and for sure new forms are less expensive for the census bureau than sending out workers - if they can even get people willing to go door to door with the pandemic raging. I wouldn't.

I've been tossing repeat forms since April or May.

We did ours online and received nothing since perhaps you should try that when you get this new letter

The census does a survey. I received a number of extra mailing one time. You can find information online with a search about a census survey.

I received 2 census forms about a week apart and when I received the 2nd one, I did it online and got a confirmation # which I wrote down on the form with the date. I've received nothing since and that was in early April.

@jackthebear I'm not sure what you mean. Perhaps I should try what? I did fill it out online. I said in my OP that I filled it out online immediately. I don't even think I had the option of mailing it in at that time.

The census does a survey. I received a number of extra mailing one time. You can find information online with a search about a census survey.

@Nuttmeg I understand what a Census is. I said that I filled it out online immediately upon receiving it. I know it's important. I just don't know why they apparently don't know that I've already filled it out. I've gotten two additional surveys.

When we completed ours online, somewhere on the site it said that we may still get one by mail and we could just ignore it.

We never did get one by mail though.

I laid mine aside and did get a reminder. I did not see an option to do one by mail unless you requested it. After I filled mine out, I did not get any more reminders. I know the last one I did had a lot more questions like how many bathrooms I had. I don't know if everybody got that one or if I was one who got the extra questions, but it was all one form.

We have a very low rate of responses in our state and may lose a Representative. I think that's like cuttng off your nose to spite your face. Some of it is probably pure apathy and some of it is probably over the fight over whether to include the citizenship quiestion. Now I'm wondering about the argument that they couldn't include that question because they were already printing the forms since most of it is being done online.

As a genealogist, I really hate to see people not responding. I know how frustrating it is trying to find people. I was told in a class once that everybody was in the census so I have come up with different methods of trying to find them although extreme misspellings I sometimes find by accident. Some I have never found. Now, future generations of researchers don't have any assurance their ancestors even filled out the forms.

People are afraid. They could lose a congressional district and funding for schools, hospitals, and community programs.

I feel very sad about this situation. People need more services now not less.

They can find that information on their own. If they want accurate data, they shouldn't be asking residents, they should consult the local governments.

If I receive such a query, I'll ignore it. The census is one thing, but this is entirely different.

The census is a people count. The other query is for a different agenda.
