The Ultimate Case Of Denial.

I caught a show of a woman who said she was afraid of her son since he was 4. He had an evil look in his eyes and would go into a rage for days.

He wanted a toy truck while shopping and when she said no he smashed the truck on the floor. She bought him one because, she wanted him to be happy.

He smashed the Playstation she got him for Christmas. She contacted where she got it and said it was received damaged and got a new one Again, she wanted to make him happy.

When older he ran the house, her house. He told her to watch her back, he might kill her in her sleep.

At 18 she she let his 15 yr. old girlfriend move in. They had a baby. He was ok with the baby. He controlled both Mom and girlfriend. Girlfriend had enough and left him and the baby. I think she was afraid to take the baby.

He ended up slitting the girlfriend's throat and took off with his son. Was caught and arrested.

Mom was going to testify on his behalf because she didn't want him in jail. She finally figured out he might kill again. He got 40 yrs.

Mom adopted her grandson and says she can see some of her son in him.

What a scary and sad story. Episode on an ID show. Yes, I do know what I would do. I would have had my child evaluated and in serious therapy. If you are afraid of a 4 yr. old and do nothing, yikes.

Wow, the shows you watch!

My grandmother always said put in the work to teach your child right from wrong with manners and an appropriate way to be in the world and then you can enjoy them for the rest of your life.

Hope this woman is doing things differently with Jr.

I saw that episode. I can't say that anyone in their shoes would do different. Maybe but most of us have never had to deal with such an awful situation. When it's your own child you do have denial. Problem with getting help for a child like that is sometimes the help is scary for the parent. I'd be afraid my child would be taken away or worse. It's a scary situation and I feel for the parents.

True... It might have helped. Then too, although 'nurture' has a lot to do with it, there are, unfortunately, some who are just wired wrong from the get-go...

@stevieb I did stop. I haven't watched since I saw this episode the other night. I'm down to reruns of the Closer, Rizzoli and Isles and Law and Order.

This particular series focuses on those who seemingly have normal lives from a young age but are seriously disturbed.

Definitely agree. Surrounding yourself with psychopaths and serial killers is not great for morale.

When I used to watch that kind of stuff I'd find myself walking around the house double checking the window locks.

@stevieb I'm sensing a physical problem for the boy/man - therapy might have helped the woman break through her denial. What a sad way for her and others in that home to live for all those years.

@millieshops I tend to agree... His are more than 'emotional problems'. Or, as I understand they say in certain medical circles, 'pizz poor protoplasm poorly put together'...

Not kind, but likely true... And, I would add, when that's the case, it's not likely that any amount of 'discipline', positive parenting or even talk therapy is going to fully resolve matters, though they might (or might not...) be able to teach some coping mechanisms to both the family and the patient...

Oppositional defiant disorder. Intermittant explosive disorder. Not easy to treat but at least she would have had techniques to use. And medications might have helped while he was under 18 and would have had less autonomy to refuse to take them. Would still have had a hard life, but maybe no one would have died. No way to really know.

@Porcelain Those shows don't scare me or have me checking locks. I've watched murder mysteries for years. Dateline, 48 hours etc. I would shake my head and they were all terrible in their own way.

Maybe adding the times we are living in, who knows, but some of the shows really get under my skin now.

Mom is Shelly Lietz and son's name is Derek.

@stevieb That's exactly what I did! That channel is way too violent, especially late at night. That program about the neighbor next door about did me in.
