QVC Swings Ax With Major Layoffsby homeshoppingista

We hardly watch QVC anymore, let alone QVC2. But last we had it on as background noise as we caught up with our newspaper reading.

SO we heard veteran host Leah Williams say that she was doing the last live broadcast on QVC2. She didn't really explain what would be airing there, we just assumed it would be reruns off QVC.

When we told our friend Ann about that today, she immediately said that means layoffs are coming. Surprisingly, that thought hadn't even crosses my mind. But she was right.

Tonight a former QVC employee posted an emotional message on Facebook saying that there had been major layoffs at the network today.

"My heart is breaking," the post said. "MY QVC family is being torn to shreds. Please know it will not be the same without you there! Know this as well, when the dust settles and the tears dry out, what happens next will be amazing."

No names were mentioned or names were given. But there were several responses to the post.

"My heart is broken," one woman posted.

"It's impossible for me to keep it together today ... I feel devastated," another wrote.

"Horrible, I am in shock," said another.

"My heart is sad and broken for so many that are now taking a blow from a company they helped build," wrote another. "Praying for better days ahead fo each and every one of you."

As someone who has been laid off twice, and out of work for two years after the first pink slip during the Great Recession, we feel for you all.

on a couple of facebook groups, someone mentioned the Q Salon is permanently closing. Also, on Stacey Stauffer's instagram page, people are writing to her they are sad that she's leaving I hate to see anyone lose a job at all. I am also one of the many that have lost their jobs due to the rough economy this year.

I have some bittersweet news to share with you my friends. I have had my last show at QVC. While I will dearly miss my friends and colleagues who have become like family to me over the last 6 years, I am hopeful and excited about new adventures that await and of course spending more time with the family I have at home, Larry, Ben and Little Larry. @MandyG06 . I hadn't heard that about Stacey......That is really too bad, but all businesses are hurting right now, and layoffs are a scary thing for sure!

LR would probably like that as right now she is doing cheesy infomercials selling as made for TV cheap gimmick products... quite a step down for the QVC queen.

It isn't clear from Stacey's FB post whether her leaving was her idea or the company's idea.

It does seem rather abrupt, but I think a lot of people don't want all the attention when leaving a job. They would rather announce it after the fact and save all the boo hoo and drama.

according to the rumor mill on facebook which was VERY active last night......450 will be losing their jobs and 4 hosts will be losing their jobs.

I hate to hear this. It just reminds me how lucky I am to have weathered through it myself so far.

I hope this doesn't shut down the forums at some point. As big of a PITA we can all be to one another and the mods at times, I would hate to lose my friends here.

This is not good news in every way.

Companies on shaky financial pinnings, people losing their jobs. The cascade effect just continues.

Wow! Whatever happened to our old life (rhetorical question). These are tough times that, for most, will become even tougher. I suppose the top 1% will be the only segment that will not feel the losses that continue.

When Leah announced that Q2 would no longer be live it was inevitable that jobs, including host jobs, would be cut. Not surprised that Stacey was cut; looks as if 3 more will announce that we have seen them on QVC for the last time. I imagine others will have their hours, pay and benefits cut while still employed as hosts.

They certainly need to hire more support positions in shipping, returns processing and CS.

let us hope those 450 people are not the entire customer service crew.... they already have no customer service.

@SeaMaiden She also runs her own business selling items like on QVC. She bought a two million dollar horse farm so I guess she's doing ok.

Seems like taking a big chunk from ineffective upper management both at Qurate and at QVC might help the financial picture and possibly lead to better overall performance. For many of us, the current management teams have failed to impress.
