White cotton gloves

Thinking of getting some to wear while out shopping, getting tired of throwing away so many others ,for protection, i do wonder if they protect you from virus, though.

We always feel better when we wear gloves when out. As soon as we get home they are bleached and washed. Don't know if it helps,but........

@goldensrbest It seems like you would have to put on a new pair every time you touched something. Easier just not to touch your face and carry disinfectant or wipes.

Never heard they would be any protection at all. But they would give you one more item for the hazard wash. It would be much better to clean your hands and purchases if wished.

Hands are a problem these days.

However white gloves are nice for overnight for cream.

IMO more important to keep your hands away from your face and wash hands thoroughly with soap when you get home. Don't really see the point of wearing gloves.

Use disposable gloves when touching or having contact with blood, stool, or body fluids, such as saliva, mucus, vomit, and urine.
After using disposable gloves, throw them out in a lined trash can. Do not disinfect or reuse the gloves.
Wash your hands after you have removed the gloves.

When gloves aren’t needed

Wearing gloves outside of these instances (for example, when using a shopping cart or using an ATM) will not necessarily protect you from getting COVID-19 and may still lead to the spread of germs. The best way to protect yourself from germs when running errands and after going out is to regularly wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

Other ways to protect yourself

COVID-19 is a respiratory virus and is mainly spread through droplets created when a person who is infected coughs, sneezes, or talks. I can't post the article or link to it because of outside links within it, but an article in InStyle dated May 28 had this excerpt about using gloves other than disposable:

"...If you decide to wear gloves, here's how to do so safely:

1. Opt for disposable latex gloves. “Gloves made of cotton or other fabric will not offer additional protection, and might themselves become soaked with contaminating material,” Dr. Berger explains...."

I see people wearing latex gloves and just shake my head. They're just cross contaminating everything they touch.

I did buy white cotton gloves that I use only to pump gas and when I use the drive thru at my bank. Then, I wash them.

I don't know if they would protect you, if they got wet somehow.

You can wipe down your vinyl or latex gloves with a clorox wipe or wash your hands while still wearing them with soap and warm water.

I do that and reuse them to do other jobs (weeding yard where someone lets their dog lift it's leg....), taking the trash barrels to the alley or bringing them back.

If you feel uneasy about reusing the disposable ones (which I've done forever for gross jobs as listed), buy a pair of Playtex gloves in white and wear those to the grocery store. You can dip them in bleach to disinfect as much as you want.

I have a lot of gloves that I used to wear when I was carrying groceries home, because my hands are super sensitive and dry. I've given them up for the pandemic because they aren't sensible. But honestly, it's probably because the grocery store around the corner and down the block has closed and now I have to go further so I use a cart.

If you're going to wear them, start with industrial work gloves. You can get cotton ones.

Just remember to keep your hands away from your face and keep washing your hands. Keep the gloves outside your house. I live in an apartment and I kept them by my shoes.

IMO think it is a big mistake... cotton absorbs. When the skin on my hands became sensitive wore cotton gloves for protection. They absorbed all the moisture out of my skin and made them worse. Changed to disposable gloves they healed very quickly from the damage that I made worse by wearing the cotton.

The white cotton will show the dirt from the store but will also absorb any

moisture that you touch, your hands will become more vulnerable.

eta: Gloves do stop germs from entering your skin surface. That's why nurses, doctors, dentists, etc wear them all the time when touching patients it is a 2 way safety protection. My skin would fall off if I had to wash my hands this much. People also have hangnails, small cuts , leasions on their skin so again you are protecting yourself and others. People act like all this stuff is new science and it is not. Germs are airborne and on surfaces. NO one can ever say the exact way you were infected.

You can shake your head all you want, hands cross contaminate more than gloves. That cotton is not doing a thing for you.

I wear disposable gloves to throw out my garbage, and to open packages. Then I toss them.

I like nitrile gloves the best. I wonder if there's a shortage of them, because they are going up in price on amazon. I haven't seen them on dispay in the stores, either.

@goldensrbest as a nurse I have to say don't wear gloves, they offer no protection at all- and unless you know the proper way to take them off you are just esclating the issues- wash your hands, don't tounch your face without clean hands and wear a mask- those are the best things you can do- oh and stay home unless you have to go somewhere this is not the time for parties, gatherings, dining in or just plain going out

I feel saver by wearing gloves, everything one touches has germs,and virus, i have been using gloves for a few yrs, to gas up car, just expanded the amount.

Just think how one is cross contaminating bare hands, i wear new pair when i run errands,then going out to car,i take off ,by rolling them down off wrist, get into car ,and wipe hands,keys ,door handle.

I am not paranoid about touching anything I need to touch with my bare hands. In stores I touch only the products I buy, and clean my hands well with wet ones as soon as I'm in my car. Same routine at the gas station. I've done this for nearly 30 years, and will continue to be careful, but will not let this virus make me paranoid.
