Update on my husband

I'm not strong enough emotionally to go into all of the details, but I wanted you all to know that I transferred my husband to hospice care this afternoon. It's not physically possible for me to do it at home as his dementia has taken full hold and he is combative at times, which breaks my heart, but I found a personal care home, very close to our house and he will be there, receiving hospice care. The wheels just really came off in the last two weeks.

I am absolutely devastated. We have been married for 29 years and have been together for 35 years. Losing him will just about kill me.

@gidgetgh It is so sad when a person's last days with his or her spouse must be spent with so much adversity when they should be happy. I'm sorry you must so through this but it's good your hubby is in the hands of those who can administer to him. I wish you well.

So terribly sorry for your heartbreak. Hospice care usually makes it a bit less unabearable. I pray it goes as easy as possible for both you and your husband

It sounds like you did the best thing possible.

Please stay close and post if it helps.

I had to put my Mom in hospice my only.

My heart aches for you. How well I understand what it is to feel the inevitable loss of the life you had with your spouse. It is an indescribably horrible feeling of doom and helplessness when you know your loved one will not recover. Of course you hurt that he has had to be placed in hospice care.

During the period that I knew my husband was going to die, no matter what I or medicine hoped for, I felt as though a train was steaming toward us and could not be stopped. Our life together would end.

If you pray, do a lot of that and speak with those you know who can help you be courageous at this demanding time. You feel weak and tired and just want to drop, I know. But you have to try your best to be strong.

I will keep you and your dear husband in my prayers.

@gidgetghI'm sorry for what you are going through. It's a difficult decision to make anytime, but especially now. I hope you live in an area where you will be able to visit him in person. Take care of yourself and know that you did what was best for both of you.

I am so sorry that you had to place your husband in a care home.

My dad too became combative at the end.

I hate Alzheimer's/dementia so much!

But as hard as it is to place our loved ones in care facilities, sometimes it's for the best.

They need more care than we can give them.
