Another Riddle

A man lives one the 14th floor, of a high rise apartment complex.

Most days, when he returns home, he gets on the elevator,

rides to the 14th floor, gets off and goes to his apartment.

Occasionally, he gets on the elevator, rides to the 12th floor, gets off, walks up 2 flights, to the 14th floor and goes to his apartment.

Why?

There's no 13 th floor on some elevators or buildings. If he lives on the actual 14 th floor from the ground floor and he walked up all the floors counting each, stopping at 14. He would be at his apartment. On the 15th according to building labels.
If the 13 th floor isn't labeled on the elevator or building and he got off at 12 and walked up 2 flights (not floors,) he would be on 14 according to the building numbers., but 13 from ground.,If he walked up 2 floors he would be on the 15 th floor which is his 14 th.
I think he's suspicious of really living on the 13th floor.
BUT I don't know WHY, IF NOT FOR LUCK???!

The 14th floor is truly the 14th floor not the usual 13th floor.

The man was a Little Person and couldn't reach the button for the 14th floor if he was alone in the elevator.

Does the man occasionally push the wrong button on the elevator pushing the number for the 12th floor by mistake.

The man is very short. Most days there are other riders in the elevator with him. These riders are tall enough to press the button for the fourteenth floor so the man can get to his floor and go to his apartments. Some days the very short man is the only rider in the elevator. On those days the highest button the man can reach is the 12th floor button so he presses that. He gets off on the 12th floor and then walks up two more fooors to get to his apartment on the 14th floor. There is a 13th floor in this building. Remember the clue;"Do not assume anything." Don't assume there's no 13th floor. Don't assume he's always alone in the elevator.

I'm a dietitian is a large hospital. Years ago, one of the resident physicians, loved to bounce these off anybody, who'd listen.

He was taking a critical thinking class, and he had some doozies! I don't remember most of them, but, this one stuck with me.

Years ago, when I was first given this, I kept making guesses; the guy who pitched me the riddle, kept saying, "you're making assumptions", I said, "No I'm not", but, I was 😈

He is only tall enough to hit the button for the 12th floor? The days he goes to the 14th, their are other riders in the elevator? Crazy answer I know.
