My town changed!

I went out to the shopping plazas for the first time since March. I have new roads, new traffic patterns and new buildings that have been completed or are in the process of being built. It was a whole new world and I have only been away three months. 🤣

Guess that's what you get when you work and grocery shop around the corner. Drive two more miles and Rand McNally needs to draw me a new map. 😂

@Laura14 Not only has geography and infrastructure changed, but society has changed too. All of this is a bit scary and unnerving.

While driving to and from the clinic, we noticed 2 fender-bender car accidents, one downed traffic light, and a flattened-to-the-ground yield sign. I suspect some folks have forgotten how to obey traffic rules.

@deepwaterdotter Or they handed out licenses to the kids without road tests. They actually did that in GA. I really don't get some people's logic.

Sounds like good things are happening in your area. Since my only ventures have been to the hospital and back since March? My wife is the only one out and about. The major change she had told me about? The Target store, where she/we shop has everything but the entrance/exit doors boarded up.

Pretty much all she has seen change, or told me about anyways.

That’s what happens when the economy is booming! Infrastructure is being fixed and rebuild, new buildings and businesses being open. That is what we need, not the destruction and lawlessness ( of any kind).

The first time I drove after a month I really had to pay attention, it was like I'd forgotten how to park!
In my town they have paved the main streets and parking lots. There is construction almost finished that wasn't even there. It's like I've been in the twilight zone!

@deepwaterdotter, I truly think they have forgotten. The last few times I went to town, I have been on a four lane road the people keep coming into my lane, when I am right beside them. They are not paying attention at all. Maybe they are use to there not being as much traffic and got use to being so few on the road. I honestly thought I was going to get hit Thursday. Its crazy.

I still haven't been out except quickly once a week to do our grocery pick up, but heard that since we had stay at home orders it was a good time to get construction done with out dealing with the tons of traffic. I think soon I am going to have to go out and explore. Not far from me they are putting in a traffic circle (not a fan of those things) so may have to venture that way. YAY

I’ve been out and around town for the past 2 months. Not much has changed except there is always a lot of road work - but those funds were allocated before COVID as is the construction you are seeing. No booming economy here. Many mom and pops are still closed or have limited hours. Some stuff not allowed to open yet. Not sure if some ever will.

When the stay at home order was in effect, I told my husband this would be the perfect time to work on the roads - no traffic!

Nothing changed where I live.........except the weeds by the roadside got really big....

Yes I'm sure most if not all of those funds were allocated pre covid. In my state town, city, and state workers were not laid off or furloughed. No pay cuts. Lucky them(although that is coming down the road, no doubt).

So they are able to do these projects. Me, I can't even get the local DPW out to fix curbing damaged by a snowplow. Guess they have more important things to do.
