In this era of "social distancing", I have noticed that in commercials for beds, (Mattress Firm) that they say that they will drop off your bed.

It use to be "white glove delivery", where they would remove your old bed, and set up your new one.

My question is, if they are only dropping off the mattress at your front door, (A) how are you supposed to get a heavy mattress inside your home, and (B) what the heck are you supposed to do with the old one?

So, before buying any bed, I would check to see what their delivery service includes.

Linda Davies said it was ok to do it when she was on last week. And I would think it would be, but I'm no expert. I'm thinking about replacing the mattress in my husbands bedroom and if I do I only plan to get the mattress and keep my old box spring.

@crazered - Mattress sets used to be a mattress and box spring. Now most seem to be a mattress and foundation (wood box covered with nice fabric). So, it seems to me if your foundation is not "box springs" and you don't mind the cover of the mattress and box spring not matching and if you are able to buy just a mattress, you can probably just purchase a mattress. Wood (or plastic or whatever hard material the foundation is made of) usually does not wear out. Or at least not as fast as a box spring which had actual springs in it.

We had to get new a few years ago, but since they were both over 20 years old we purchased both. I would say depends on the age and condition of your box spring. If it is ok then just buy the mattress but my personal opinion I would buy both especially if you have allergies. Dust mites love mattresses.

I will read when I'm ready - I know I'm close to needing new - but I'm thinking the foundation decision is also somewhat reliant on the kind of mattress you want to sleep on.

if the old boxspring is in good shape then I certainly would keep it. The feel of a mattress on a flat wood/solid platform is totally different than a mattress that is supported on a boxspring.

I have a twin bed that is on a wood platform that is very uncomfortable.

When I replaced my mattress and box spring last year the salesman stated that if you only buy the mattress and not the box spring it would void the warranty. Don't know if that was just a sales pitch or not. In any case, I need both.

Most people who buy the wonderful new memory foam mattresses get rid of their old mattress and keep the box spring to use with the new one. Perfectly satisfactory.

It's around 11" high - and the boxspring was tall. I'm only 4'10" - so the salesman ordered a special boxspring for me which is 5" tall --- perfect!!!!!

When I get into bed, I put my butt on the mattress and swing my legs over.

Simmons Beautyrest - is the mattress I purchased and love.

I always check Yelp for local mattress stores and read their reviews and ask for the manager or sales-person that most people recommend.

This was the 8th mattress I purchased from this store over 19 yrs.

I have a 4 bedroom house.

I've always been satisfied.

When u read mattress reviews - there are, literally, thousands of people who bought the wrong mattress or the mattress is so uncomfortable, they're miserable.

The mattress business is now owned by hedge-funds --- and they only care about making money. Most of the warranties are useless.
