Virginia Phase 1

On Friday, May 15 Virginia went into Phase 1 of reopening. I went to Great Clips near me and had my haircut yesterday. I booked my appointment online and waited in my car. The hair staff came out and got me. Everyone, the hair staff and customers wore masks. When I was getting my haircut, I removed the straps of the mask from my ears and held the mask to my nose and mouth. Great Clips was so busy. Great Clips was already setup with a small wall/parttion between the hair stations. My hairstylist was great, very sweet and she was happy to be back to work. I just wanted to share how things are in Virginia. Peace and Blessings to all. Tallgal.

Just passing on information about wearing masks......never touch the front of the mask, put it on and remove it by the ear loops. Wash your hands immediately after removing.

You are sooooo lucky! We live in Northern Virginia and were all set to make an appointment to get our haircuts when we were excluded from Phase 1. 😕 I wear my hair in a pixie cut and usually get it cut every 5 weeks. As a result, it's very healthy and grows very fast. I was due for a trim right before the salons were closed, so I missed my chance. My hair hasn't been this long in over 30 years. If it's dry out, my hair's top heavy. If it's humid, just call me Curly Top. Oh well, this too shall pass. Other than feeling scruffy, we're ok.

ETA: DH just came out, stood in front of me and said, "Eileen, have you seen your hair?" It wasn't a compliment.

Not all of Virginia is in Phase 1... I do wonder when No. Va. will get a taste of freedom... I believe the governor, such as he is, had originally said it was all or nothing but I believe he was more or less forced to look at the preponderance of indicators saying those areas nearest DC weren't ready... Best to err on the side of caution, but it's been a long time...

@stevieb In my case the local leaders asked to governor to exclude us. I don't know why. I don't follow the numbers that closely. It wouldn't matter to me anyway. We are excluded...period.

@esmerelda I think that was more or less the case across the board for all the more northern counties, despite that he originally said he wanted an all or nothing opening... I'm not really following the details either because it is what it is and when we open, I'm sure I'll know about it... Right now, we're not and as tiresome as it is, it's probably best, though some indication of when we might re-open would be a little uplifting

he put maryland in phase 1 and then a few individual counties decided not to adopt the phase 1 recommendations just yet.

yes, it has felt like a very long time.......

That's essentially the way it worked out... Some similarities between the two with a few major cities in the rest of the state, but with highly populated close-in to DC suburbs... Of course, some big differences too...

There was a barber in upstate NY doing hair in his home during the lockdown.
he now has the virus as well as at least a dozen of his clients.
Personally a haircut isn't worth it to me

I'm in VA, south of Richmond. We are in phase 1. Stores limited opening, restaurants eating outside only, appointment haircuts.

I'm older so still staying home except for groceries, walking dogs in neighborhood. Fortunately I cut and color my own hair, and give the dogs their baths.
I'm afraid with the opening there will be spikes and I'm remaining home.
For those areas not open for haircuts, I'm sorry! When my hair gets too long it drives me crazy, so I can't wait to cut it. Hopefully everyone will be open soon and hopefully without spread!

Hawaii Phase 1 re-opening went into effect yesterday, i.e., shopping malls, other retail, etc., but not Hair/Nail salons yet. The beaches opened back up today; the ocean never closed, meaning you can cross the beach to get to the water for swimming & surfing, but couldn't plant your butt on the beach. As of today, you can.

Phase 2 is allegedly going to happen June 5th, when restaurants can re-open. I have no idea what phase hair/nail salons can re-open, but my hairstylist, esthetician & nail tech are all working underground now, anyway. They have children to feed & I'm more than happy to contribute to their paycheck.

Our "stay-at-home/work-at-home" order has been conveniently renamed to 'Re-open Hawaii' and is extended through June 30th to allow for phased re-openings.

You are in one of the two states with the fewest number of cases, and so I am surprised that your reopening is at a later date. Alaska is the other state. However, your state probably started recording infections at a later date, I think.

@lianne Just to clarify they have no idea if he infected anyone.

@golding76, Hawaii essentially cut itself off early on and has taken its edicts very seriously. Visitors must quarantine for 14 days and that has even been extended to intraisland visitors. Here is an example of how serious Hawaii is:

The state Attorney General’s office said today that 23-year-old Tarique Peters of the Bronx, New York, was arrested this morning for violating quarantine and lying to authorities. A local man was with Peters when he was arrested and also faces charges. Bail for Peters is set at $4,000.
