Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

I suddenly remembered this morning, and wondered what they were doing about this. The food drive for local pantries that is done every year by USPS.

Hopefully it can be rescheduled, obviously it's needed now more than ever.

March 27, 2020 Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive Postponed

The 28th annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive, scheduled for May 9, 2020, has been postponed. The NALC, as well as our national partners, are fully committed to rescheduling the food drive later in 2020. A new date has not yet been scheduled.

This is good to know, @Greeneyedlady21 . I was thinking it was suppose to be in April. I will watch for a notice. I always give to this and feel it is a good cause. Everything goes for the hungry, no overhead. And it stays in the community you live in. TA

@Greeneyedlady21 I agree 100%. I'm involved in my local food bank & the need is great. You wouldn't believe the number & types of people who are food insecure.It breaks my heart.

@NicksmomESQ : We always set food out but also send money monthly as they can purchase more food per dollar than we can afford to buy for them.

Last month I sent checks to the different food banks where I live and visit. With the check amounts they purchase meats for the banks and get more value for the money than I could get for them as an individual.

Hunger never stops.

Thanks to all who love and care for others. We donate both nationally and have a relationship with our town Social Services Department. During a recent phone call with them, I was reminded that SNAP benefits only cover what can be eaten. So that also leaves a gap. So all soaps, paper products, including toilet paper, Kleenex, diapers etc. are in great need, as well. We did some ordering from W.B. Mason, a very old company, catering mainly to businesses but also we regular folks. My kids recommended. One of what we ordered was a mother lode of toilet paper - I believe it was 80 to 90 rolls. Wonder if delivery driver thought we were hoarders???

I'm not sure if I posted this here or not before, but many communities, especially small ones, have what some are calling Angel boxes. They are simply a cupboard built outside a public space in the town or village, like the library or fire station, and you can put food and personal care products in or take out what you need. It isn't locked, and isn't monitored, it is basically on an honor system.

I really love it, because in so many rural areas, there are clusters of people who have little or no transportation and the small stores that service them (if still there) have really high prices because they don't have the buying power of the mega chains. So these little food cupboards, while not designed to feed a family for days like a trip to the food pantry might be, are someplace where people can go and pick up a few things to get them through the day, or supplement what they might have left at home.

I hope they catch on more place, and I hope people use them responsibly so those who need it can benefit.

there are 2 food banks in my town i send a check every month to both i live alone so i do not need that much . so s ad to see the lines when i pass there. please give what you can afford

@Sadiesadie Yes!! I write a check regularly too, aside from my volunteering. Hunger really bothers me.A country as well off as ours shouldn't allow one single sole to go hungry,or lack a roof over their head,period.

The corporation I work for is currently double matching Covid related donations. 2:1. Just see if the company you work for does any matching. It is tripling what these non profit organizations receive and they are very thankful and many donate where in stays in our own communities.

We are supporting our regional food. We also are helping the people in Tanzania. We visited last summer and can only imagine what they're going through now, given their lack of basic resources. Also, a small hospital there took such good care of me when I became ill that we also support their efforts.
