My Wal-Mart observation

Makes me wonder why they bothered putting all the arrows of entering and exiting in the aisles as the people don't follow them. Not at my WM anyway.

The people in my Walmart aren't following them either. However, my other grocery stores that are using those markings, everyone is following them with no problem. Not sure why it's so difficult in Walmart. Lol!

You know I actually found myself not compliant, totally not on purpose, I am just so concerned about being there I am laser focused on getting what I need and getting out.

@LindaSal , oh I get that. It took me a few times out to pay attention to the road signs.

@LindaSal Agree. I don't have a Walmart near me but in the supermarket and Trader Joe's my goal is to be in and out in 10 minutes or less and I've been able to do that. Know what I want, get it and get out.

@KKJ Walmart "bothered" because social distancing is also socially responsible. And probably gives them some legal protection.

When shoppers ignore the guides and add to potential danger, short of a company hiring a guard for each shopper they allow access to their store - what would you have them do?

So far- the best social responsibility I'm taking is to keep me away from places where the clientele is still acting like lots of teen-agers do. Many feel immortal and only when tragedy strikes close to home do they realize it just isn't so. Much as I'd like "normal" to be what it was, I'm resigned to that not being true for me for a very long time.

What color are the arrows? In my local BJ's, the arrows are day glo yellow, so it's hard to miss them. However, the ones in our neighborhood Giant are brown and I didn't even notice them until I missed them a few times. Also at this Giant, all of the arrows from the entrance (for the 3 aisles shared by the produce, bakery and deli) point towards the back of the store. If you forgot something, you have to go against the flow. Then there are people like DH who are totally oblivious to anything not at eye level. 🙄

@KKJ Sounds like the manager isn't doing a very good job. I don't shop at Walmart, but the couple of times I was in one (before virus) it was so chaotic and just messy. I buy my laundry detergent (Nellies) from HSN and the rest of cleaning supplies, and liquid hand soap, we purchase at Costco or the grocery store.

I did that at Aldi. I don't shop there often and didn't even notice the 'small arrows' placed far - apart at first. I was trying to get what I needed and get out. I did follow the arrows after I noticed them and will be more aware next time I shop. I wasn't the only one who made this mistake.

Even without a pandemic situation I try to shop Wal-Mart mid week /early afternoon due to l-o-n-g checkout lines. Never weekends.

I know there was one parent behind me standing on the arrow 6 ' back me and I heard her son ask "why are you standing so far back ? " and she explained.

I have a small rural Walmart. They don't follow the arrows at my store either. They don't evern now how far 6 Ft apart is. Last week I told 4 people they were going the wrong way and got a variety of responses. I have tried to limit my visits to the store.

I haven't been to Walmart in a long time. But those arrows are out Publix. I follow the arrows at all time, I make sure I'm going in the right direction. If I have to go all away around to go up the aisle in the right direction, I do. The last time I was there, two ladies in particular I noticed weren't following the arrows at all or social distancing. I mostly shop Kroger and they don't have the arrows.

Hey, I've done that too and it does kinda defeat the purpose of getting in and out in a hurry. It's especially annoying when I'm at end of an aisle and right there at other side is what I need but it's at the no-enter end. So do I just reach over and get it or have to walk all the way down aisle I'm on and around to the next?

I didn't mean they (WM) shouldn't do it.. I am annoyed with the people not following it so it's counterproductive.

I just complained to hubs about this yesterday. But its my fault for going in a walmart on a saturday. What did I expect. It was packed and people were on top of each other with no intention of separating. Some were wearing face masks on top their head like sunglasses or below the chin. I got what I needed and got the h out of there.

The store managers have no interest in social distancing or masks. Only following required protocols. However, my sister lives in a metro area where someone is placed at the end of each aisle, actually directing “traffic” up and down, in and out. Two folks at a time only in an aisle. So it can be done, but probably not required.

We will be on lockdown again in the Fall. My sister in law works at NIH...she said it’s not backing down so get ready. People are not listening.

It's chaotic at my WM too and I hate going there but they have things my local grocery doesn't have which I need. Also my grocery has long checkout line with only one checker now whereas I always use the self-checkout at WM which ends up being faster.

I don't really get the point of the arrows. You still have to walk past people. Are we supposed to just stand in an aisle for 10 minutes while everyone ahead of us browses. I normally spend under 10 minutes shopping. Now I have to spend even more time in the store upping people's risk?

@pigletsmom Exactly...our walmart does not have one way aisles but weeks ago an elderly couple were shopping together and pretty much stopped in the middle of the end of the aisle..I could not get around them.

Instead of asking them to move I went to the other aisle...picked up what I wanted and headed back to the 'original' aisle...they were still there...again I did not ask them to move...I guess I should have offered to help them...I just moved on to a different aisle.
