Chiropractor refused service

My husband's chiropractor called to let him know they were back open. He made an appointment to go in because his hip has been hurting for a couple months and, of course, has not been able to get an adjustment. They asked if he had been exposed to COVID 19 and he answered yes because someone at his plant was diagnosed with it over a month ago. As a result, my husband was told to quarantine at home for 2 weeks and then was allowed back to work. His company tests all employees before they even walk in the door and he has never shown any symptoms of the virus. But the chiropractor refused to treat him.

How in the world does a person get medical treatment with that kind of rationality?

I think we are all potentially exposed to the virus every time we step foot in a grocery store. So essentially no one should be treated?

Am I not seeing something here?

@caroln242 I think you're seeing people living in fear, and that does lead to irrationality. The reaction in that office makes me wonder why they even opened - there's no way any of us can be guaranteed we're safe near anyone unless, as you said, we know where they've been and when for at least 14 days -- and even then, what if someone is asymtomatic for 15 days. .

One of the dentists I know is not re-opening his office yet even though his governor has lifted restrictions. He's had supplies on order for weeks now to protect himself and his staff and has received nothing. Says he'll open when both he, they, and we are more likely protected. To me that makes more sense than trying to screen patients when I don't see how the office could know who's even telling them the truth.

He is actually tested every time he goes to work? I would think proof of a negative test would get him into the chiropractor.

My dentist is not open either but he has sent his cell phone number to all established patients and is available for emergencies.

That chiropractor is setting a useless standard. We have seen how a large number of people are going to do what they want, and feel completely entitled to do so. They will say whatever they need to in order to go where they wish to go, including visiting this chiropractor.

I don't know what your husband's ailment is regarding his hip but perhaps his chiropractor can direct him to some PT exercises (or you can google on your own) readily available on Youtube to at least stretch his hip joint. That may provide relief.

@DiAnne Right. I know he has done emergencies during the shutdown.

One of the details seems to be that hours near anyone infected ups the opportunity for the virus to jump from person to person. Given the high rate of infection in places where people are exposed hour after hour after hour to possible virus sources, I'd think most emergencies could be handled.

Then again, I'm safe at home.

My son hadn't been to his chiropractor in over a month.
He was told he would have to wear a mask. My son told him he didn't have one and no stores do either. (He wouldn't order them when I pleaded with him to months ago!)

They said they would give him one. The Dr. said to return in 2 weeks, his back was really bad.
Since then, I've received the QVC Masks that will be too small for him. He has heart trouble and had a hard time breathing in the one the Dr gave him. But his back is better!

@caroln242 you can look at it this way: just as your husband is free to choose which chiro he wants to go to, the chiro is also free to decide how he wants to protect his business, himself and his employees. Is all about freedom.

He was told to quarantine at home because there was a known case he was exposed to. That means not leaving the house for any reason. That should have been explained to him. That usually extends to household members also.

I could be wrong, but I doubt if he is actually tested every day. More than likely he has temperature taken every day before he can began work.

Yeah, I said that wrong. I didn't mean like getting the virus test, just temp and the "20 questions". They give them a new mask and hand sanitizer at the door and have "spotters" or whatever you call them to make sure they're maintaining proper distance. Sorry, didn't mean to confuse the issue.

My dentist is taking emergency patients, but is not open yet.

DH's doctors and he have video conferences, but he has to go in now and then for treatments.

I will be out for the first time in a long while on May 26 for a medical visit, and another one week later.

My dentist also is available for emergencies. I probably will not go for cleanings for at least a year....even if he opens up. Not worth the risk just for a cleaning. I take care of my teeth so it should be fine for a year.

That's what I was thinking about cleanings, too. I was due for one in April, and of course that was cancelled. But a dentist or hygienist is about the closest exposure I can think of, and I don't want to risk that until we hopefully have a vaccine. If I develop a dental problem, that's a different matter, and of course I'd have to go in at that point.
