States that are opening up

How are they doing? How's Georgia doing now that things are opening up again? It pays to have some wide open spaces vs the highly populated areas in close quarters. Think NYC.

Would like to see some of the outlier states start to open things up slowly.

We are gradually opening up in Florida. Beaches are open but with restrictions for distancing. Education teams from Parks & Rec greet all beach goers. Law enforcement patrols the areas So far so good. BUT- Tampa Bay is expecting a huge influx this weekend. We'll see how that goes. I'm waiting a while. In other sectors, restaurants are allowed to have dine-in at 25% capacity and many are expanding their outdoor seating to accommodate the distancing regulation

Well our Governor thinks that it is ok to let a dog get its hair cut and groomed, but not a woman.....More people here have died from the flu and pneumonia than from Corona yet we are prisoners.

I wonder if enough customers will choose to patronize the re-opened businesses to make it profitable. And if there are enough people with disposable income to purchase goods and services.

I think it's really too soon to tell isn't it? Has Georgia been open even 2 weeks? I've completely lost track of anything anymore. LOL

Ohio just started to re-open on May 1st with a few more things opening May 4th. More is supposed to open May 12th and the governor has said he will announce either today or tomorrow when restaurants, salons, barbershops can open.

Dog groomers were able to open however, there are strict guidelines. It has to be appointment only and curbside service, meaning they come out and get your dog and take him/her inside and bring the dog back out. I was going to make an appointment for my dog but now that they are talking about social distancing animals because of this, I'm not so sure I want to do that.

@SnooppI'm watching. Watching what happens to those who live where social distancing is easier (can't believe it's ever easy). Earlier this week I spoke with family that lives in the Finger Lakes area of upstate NY in a town almost always thinly populated this time of year.

They're seeing houses along their lake opening early and even though they don't socialize with those owners, they do shop with them, go to church with them, etc. I'd say they were already skeptical at the very least.

I think we need some weeks to know whether the openings keep the worst aspects of this scourge where it's already been - I'm thinking healthcare facilities, prisons, factories where the worst numbers are from or will be see something idfferent. I want to know that much before I'll be comfortable venturing much of anywhere.

There was a physician last night on a national news program. She worked in a New York hospital. I did not catch her name.

Her opinion was that NY has peaked and they are now on the down swing. However, she feels that the other states have not peaked yet and are going to see an increase in figures. Is she right? Who knows.

I only know that in Ohio, the actual data is not matching the models that are being presented which is making more and more people become weary of what is going on.

My state is starting to open back up.

I think hair salons were just able to start opening yesterday or day before yesterday. I know where I go, they had posted on fb that they had openings.

I'm gonna wait this out a little longer. Just do not feel comfortable going just yet.

My State is still closed but this week many small business owners in my town decided the heck with this nonsense, opened their doors & are selling outside only...so far these hard working owners who always support our community haven't been hauled off to jail & it's great to see our community supporting them when they desperately need it.

Yep. They must have come into contact with someone who wasn't wearing a mask or following guidelines. It is highly contagious so it only takes one knucklehead to put you in the hospital.

I hope some of the hospitalized who were very careful about the rules can trace down the moment they were infected and find clear definitive proof of who gave it to them and then sue for damages. In most cases, probably not, but in a few I bet there would be clear causality and proof. I would think there also might be a DNA signature they could find. When enough careless people have to pay cold hard cash as a result of their careless health decisons, I think we'll see less of that funny business.

Last night, here in TN, I saw a tv ad for Steinmart, a department store. It was such a turn off. It was just basically a powerpoint background with animations and a voiceover. They announced they are open and safer than ever. No details about how. Or what to expect if you go in their store, whether you should wear a mask or anything. Then they breezed right into talking about some sale they're having. No video footage or pictures. I was even less interested in going in there after seeing the ad than I had been before I saw it.

It is great that the community is supporting them. There was a public service commercial the other day. Every time local schools or community sports teams need a fund raiser it is the small businesses that step up and help out. Now it is the communities turn to support them.

@wildcat fan, I saw that, too. But I bet that it's self-reported. For example, we are following lockdown rules but went to TJs a couple days ago. Also, contact can occur from just going outside and encountering people, which I do every day on my walks. I try to avoid them, but it doesn't always work.

Or they live with an essential worker who was infected outside doing their job or doing the shopping. Many of the infected show no symptoms and still are contagious.

I believe it will be a few weeks to see how fast the virus numbers do or dont rise in the states and cities that are opening up.

As it is the government doesnt want these states to follow the CDC guidelines, so I'm sure some governors will just listen and throw caution to the wind.
