No meat shortage

Got an email today from the local grocery chain (D’Agostino’s) to let us know that we have no meat shortage .. included a pic of the meat department.

I eat more fish than meat ... but it’s good to know there’s no current shortage.

The grocery stores that I go to in suburban Minneapolis have limited choices (no whole chickens, less varieties of ground beef, etc.), as well as how much you are allowed to buy.

Have D'Agonstino's send their email to Giant, because I'm telling you, they are definitely having a meat shortage, along with a shortage of pretty much everything else... Looks like this is going to be another localized problem and it appears, once again, my region drew the short straw...

I haven't noticed any meat shortage. Our supermarkets are still having sales on good beef - we just got Porterhouse steaks for under $6 per lb, got a ton of pork roasts at Costco for $1.59 per lb and also a huge package of gr beef for under $4 per lb. Maybe there's a shortage because we bought so much, ha, ha. We do eat a lot of beef, pork and chicken.

I did grocery pick up today and got chicken, ground beef and lamb chops. Cleaning products are in very very short supply.

I am in NoCal I don't eat meat, but my granddaughter shops for me now. She says Costco, trader Joesand Nob Hill/Raleys are limited. Only one meat item per person. Costco has been doing this for a hike. The local grocery store shelves are empty most of the week. Monday this week we made a haul, and got everything I needed for the first time in 2 months. Then , granddaughter went back to store today and shelves were bare

no meat, chicken, or pork last sunday at sams club.

today they had T BONES, which i purchased. i was looking for filets, but none again.

giant grocery store had limited choices last friday, but i found some meats i could work with. it has definitely given me some new ideas for dinners.

The grocery store here in AZ had oodles of Hillshire Farms kielbasa sausage and very little other meat. There were limited packages of preformed hamburger patties.

@tansy @You're lucky. I've been trying to get Hillshire Farms kielbasa for three weeks. I have been wanting to make red beans and rice with it.

The varying food supplies across the country are so weird, @Mindy D. When this first started back in March, the only meat available was corned beef packets. At that time the market didn't have cabbage.

It would be great with these types of posts if everyone would include their state since all the stores source from different places.

South Central Wisconsin---meat is limited to one package at a local supermarket where I shop. No bleach, no disinfecting wipes, limited availability of hand sanitizer, no facial masks available locally, and no gloves available locally.

TP and paper towels availabilithy has greatly improved.

In the Green Bay area a meat producing factory was shut for a few days as a number of the employees tested positive for Covid-19.

Buy from your local farmers. I haven't bought any of my produce, fruit, meat , pork or chicken from a grocery store in many, many years! There's never a shortage and its nothing but PURE food. Do a little research and take a visit to your locals, help the little guy while you're at it.

You do know that there are many people in this country who don't have local farms or farmers or have no way to access them if they do? Do a little research?- that's rather insulting.

The entire premise of this post, that there isn't a shortage where the OP shops (in NYC)-same thing applies. In this country of all places, you cannot have what ends up being a myopic view. I don't mean that as an insult, it just is myopic to assume that everyone's situation is like yours. In a huge country, with countless variable factors.

I live in the midwest and all our grocery stores have meat shortages. They also limit how much meat a person can buy at a time. I fix meat once or twice a week so it won't bother me as much as those who like meat every day. Shortages happen when people hoard and when meat packing plants don't protect their workers.

If there is a meat shortage it's partly because the same hoarders who scarfed up all the toilet paper, bottled water, hand sanitizer, cleaners and wipes are doing the same thing with meat. Yes some of the meat packing plants had to close or are short-staffed due to the virus, but they are starting to open again and will be back on full production soon. Some people are just plain greedy, selfish, inconsiderate boors. That's why stores have to limit quantities. Once again, the public in general has to suffer because of the actions of a few.

It's not that easy for most people to afford or have storage space to hoard huge quantities of meat.

What some might view as greed or selfishness is more likely due to more households having to feed more famiiy members three times a day, every day, every week for a couple of months at this point.

I don't call it hoarding when people just need to buy a lot of groceries and feed more people more often than usual.

A lot of those groceries also are being bought up by charitable groups which are dispensing them to the poor and newly unemployed.

Stories of these effforts to feed the hungry, including handicapped and senior citizens, are in the local news media everyday.

I've participated in two separate charitable food distribution efforts funded and organized by good people in our neighborhood just in the past month.
