To bring a smile: A Toad story......

We have a toad living on our deck. To get there, he had to jump up 14 stairs after coming about 15 feet to the base of them from the woods. He lives on one of our chairs behind a decorative cushion (we have fancy deck furniture, lol). It's raining softly and the chair is right outside the sliding glass doors where I'm sitting. We wondered what he does to eat and well, now I know. I keep the back porch light on as it illuminates the woods and our deck. Watched as he pushed the pillow a bit to the side, hopped off the chair and is now sitting outside my screen door catching the moths/bugs that come to the porch light and flutter down to where he is. He'll return to behind the cushion at dawn.

Freaking amazing, Nature is.

Aren't they wonderful?!I loved your story too!

Years ago,I had a large friendly toad come to visit me every morning and just hang out with me on our Apt. patio.

He got to know my voice and we spent many happy days together.

I once got to see him catch a fly with his tongue. That was so amazing.

I loved that big friendly toad.

Many wild animals, and birds can grow accustomed to our voices and can distinguish very well one person from another.

We have a pond and have a couple of huge bullfrogs living in it. It's funny to walk out and see them laying on Lily pads.

What a cute story ! I love the way you described him 🐸.

Ive always loved toads and frogs, once when I was pregnant many moons ago, I accidentally ran over one, and it broke my heart .I got out of my car and stood over the dead frog, sobbing.

Years later upon seeing a large toad on the road I pulled over and helped him get across. 🐸

we have poisonous toads in south Florida. They are big, and dangerous to pets because they they secrete poison from their backs. They are not native, and we wish they were not here.

But, we have the cutest frogs! While none have become friends, I have saved a few! ....when hurricane season is over, and shutters are opened or removed, you have to look behind them to see if anyone is living there, to be sure they don't get crushed. This is the adorable guy I saved last year.... he wasn't happy to have to move from the shutter to house, but I was patient. There is no way I would hurt him.

My neighbor has a very small toad or frog on her deck stairs. She's moved him a couple times as she's afraid she'll step on him. He's not very big and blends in. She has a small koi pond but he doesn't seem to go in it. Very cute.

Last night I was taking the dogs outside for their last walk. My female was ahead going down the driveway. She stopped abruptly and there was a frog sitting still. He was holding a worm and would not move or let it go.
The dogs circled it and it wasn't moving. We went on our walk and the frog was gone when we returned, so was the worm. I've never seen a frog eat a worm!

We also have a little frog friend who sticks to the house next to the front door. I think he or she likes being near our front porch light for the same reason yours does @FiddleDeeDee.

I also think he may assume we worship frogs. We have a really old black cast iron door stop, that I love, in the shape of a frog by the front door. I assume he considers it a lifesized statue in his honor.

We have toads around here, but my favorite are the tree frogs that start singing in the evenings in Spring time.

I have seen them just as babies, and they are no bigger than a penny, and bright green.

I remember my mom taking me to our zinnia bed and pointing out a tiny green tree frog, right in the middle of a big pink zinnia. He looked like the center of the flower, and I couldn't see it for the longest time. Finally, I saw it! So cute.
