The Nerve Of Some People.....

This morning at 7:00 am DH & I were awakened by the phone.I answered it just to hear my neighbor yelling about her daughter. Half asleep I told her I didn't understand what she was saying .

She went on to say that since she was home schooling her daughter & her 2 nephews she & her husband were behind in their work & needed to catch up. Therefore, She will be dropping her daughter off at my house at 9:00am!!

Whoa 😳.I told her that wasn't going to happen. I am not exposing myself, my 70 year old DH or my son to any possibility of the virus,period.She told me I was selfish. I said well then why don't you ask your parents or in laws to watch her? Her response "Well they're in their 60's & have to be careful right now". Bingo!! I said to her "now who's being selfish?".She hung up on me.

At 9:00 am another neighbor called to tell me that she & another neighbor got phone calls from her.They both turned her down too.

I can't believe this woman's stupidity. I've had dealings with her before. She is selfish & inconsiderate.

that is awful. It sounds like she has a mental problem also.

I hope she doesn't yell at the children she is taking care of like that.

WOW!!! How bizarre....your neighbor either has mental issues or just doesnt know how to handle home schooling.....If she calls you again tell her to call the school to get help and guidance....

Good grief...she sounds like a real piece of work. Feel sorry for her child. If her daughter is school age, she's old enough to be in her room alone for a couple hours reading, playing with toys, watching a movie....so parents can get work done. Parents can take turns watching/ playing with her while the other does work. They sound like narcissistic jerks who just want some "alone time."

@NicksmomESQ Wow! Sounds like your neighbor is a nightmare. She doesn't want to risk infecting her parents/in-laws' health but has no problem risking yours. Another Wow!

What a you know what! Some people just seem to think the whole world owes them. You are not selfish, you have good sense.

I'm glad you stood your ground. Its not worth exposing your family just because they are behind in their work.

You did the right thing. Sad situation to be put in.
That being said, I am concerned for daughter and nephews. Lots going on and we don’t know. Why does she have nephews? Could be Job has expectations and she can’t deal with three different „classes“ to hold. It’s understandable but feel for people under her roof.

maybe you could let her leave a voicemail next time and if you wanted to let the school or county know and maybe someone would do a home visit or phone call.

@NicksmomESQI agree totally with your decision not to bring the child into your house at this time.

Even so and maybe I watch too much SVU, but I'm concerned that the child could become the victim of abuse than I am about the nerve of a neighbor you already knew had issues. Sounds like mom is about to go over the edge.

Please keep your eyes and ears open even as you distance yourself and protect your own family.

Sounds like a call for help. Everyone is under a great deal of stress and people are reaching breaking points. Hope she found someone who could help, even if it was just taking the time to listen.

I got mad just reading this. I can't believe your neighbor! You came up with good response to that nut. I feel sorry for any child having to spend time with her and her husband. I'm not sure if they are abusive or neglecting the children in their care. They certainly are not providing a nurturing environment. When you are able to talk face to face in the future I would tell her if she ever tried to dump her child off on me or anyone in the neighborhood social services would be on her like white on rice. Furthermore let her know social services is a call away and you have them on speed dial.

I have called social services twice when I had concerns about the welfare of 2 different children. Children and older people need to be protected. I have had family members tell me not to get involved. I told them see something, say something.

@NicksmomESQ the neighbor sounds off the wall.She could be melting down under the stress or depressed.I hope she finds some help to get herself through.I don't think she should expect your help;in this situation when it could endanger your health.

I have a relative who called me at 5 A.M. one day, crying and ranting. Turns out she was on drugs. I no longer have any contact with this person.

Definitely a wackjob for sure but unfortunately not unusual in this day and age. I work in a grade school and can't get over how many negligent parents think it's everyone else's job to take care of THEIR kids!

When you choose to become a parent you need to realize that you are committing to a full-time 18 year job. Few people take on that role diligently nowadays.

@millieshops She would never abuse her child.Her problem is that she expects everyone to help her raise her child.So many young people feel that way. We have a friend who's daughter is always looking for people to help her care for her kids. She thinks it's a group effort. My friend keeps telling her daughter "you made them,you raise them.I'm just here to spoil them".
