My poor husband will soon be furloughed. The big oil company is stopping his company’s work on their refinery project. They say it will be for 30 days, but it could be longer, so there goes his job in a short while, My niece and brother in law are furloughed from their jobs. I know that millions of people are now without work, but when it hits home it is terrible. I am devastated.

@QVCPhobe I hope it's not longer than 30 days. This is why our country needs to reopen soon. Too much longer won't be good for anyone healthy or sick.

@QVCPhobe So sorry that you and your husband are having to go through being furloughed. At least he will be asked to come back - soon, hopefully. You are not alone in your situation, of course. Hang in there!

We have not been furloughed but we had to take a pretty big pay cut. We still get to work for half the money. But, we at least still have jobs that will be here when this is over. Everyone is willingly chipping in.

What is happening is devestating to so many people. The cure is definitely going to be worse than the disease.

The projections were "wrong" from the beginning. The question to ask is - who benefits from this.

I supposedly have my firm goodbye date too. April 30th is my last day with my current employer. You are not alone and it sounds like he has hope of being back at some point. That's better than most.

It is hard when something directly affects you and your family. That is why experts always say to have three months salary tucked away. I feel sorry for the Minimum wage type jobs lost. They literally live paycheck to paycheck and are flooding Food Banks. They can't hardly save money.

It wasn't that long ago that many older workers were let go in 2008. That happened to me at age 55, a single divorced woman. Organizations including the school I worked for cut back and preferred younger less salaried employees. Many of us in our 50s lost jobs. My 401K went to half its value. I did any work I could to get by like Substitute Teaching and Assisted Living. I could not afford to retire.

Hopefully he can be called back soon. 30 days may be a good time to get some projects done at home. We all hope for everyone getting back to work and more normal soon. I am so sorry ,I know it hurts and is a shock.

My daughter is part-owner of a cosmetics shipping company. She also serves as the HR head. She has had to furlough most of her employees. It is tearing her apart. She's trying to deal with all the repercussions of the virus while keeping her company together and home schooling my granddaughter. These are definitely tough times.

I agree, this is very sad. Does it have anything to do with the recent agreement among foreign oil producers to limit production?

I know the wholesale of #2 heating oil took a 5% hit yesterday and is down to $0.94/gal today, the lowest I've seen it since I started tracking it around 2015. It definitely doesn't seem an opportune time to add capacity, unfortunately.

I am sorry for your situation, and that of your other relatives. I hope you can all get benefits to help tide you over.

When furloughed, benefits typically remain in effect. I hope anyone who has been furloughed does not forego medical needs thinking they don't have coverage...at least not before confirming yes or no with their employer.

@QVCPhobe Be sure your dh files for Unemployment Insurance the first day after his last day of work.

My state is very much affected by low oil prices but I heard steps have been taken to end the price war between Russia and the Saudis. Things should then stabilize.
