Pet walkers and a needed sign...

...for my flower bed near the road.

I am so anoyned by people that walk their dogs on leashes, that allow their animal to pee in my flower bed around the mailbox.

We have a dog, we walk her in the street and pick up any thing she leaves behind...but I have noticed that while the pet walkers are picking up poop (most of the time) they allow their dogs to pee on flowers and greenery in the neighbors yard..mine specifically.

I need some clever text, as I am going to make a small sign and place it the flower bed....people are so inconsiderate.

I don't allow my dog to walk on anyone's lawn except ours. Yet, in my neighborhood I see people do this all the time. I have even asked people to keep their dog off my lawn - and one apparently had a stomach issue, ugh. The guy got annoyed and asked if I was kidding. Um, no.

One neighbor has a small sign attached to his mailbox post that says "keep your dog outta my yard" (he has a dog).

IMO, I don't think people realize that when a dog does his business somewhere, other dogs coming along then have to mark that spot. Then, you have spots on the grass or dead flowers.

It really is just plain rude.

It has become a constant thing in the park next to us. If each person with a dog would come back and do 15 minutes of raking, our park would be clean and green. And how about those people who drop gloves and face masks on the ground, leaving the dirty work to someone else.

I cited the same to our HOA. Because we can't put up unauthorized signs, I suggest the HOA allow those homeowners affected to have signs that read, "This lawn is not your pet's personal toilet bowl." Of course, nothing was done and this behavior continues. I'm just thankful our side of the street doesn't have sidewalks with the little grassy areas. Those homes that have the grassy areas look like h#$% with all those pre spots.

And some of these residents complain about the conditions of their lawns and bad-mouth our landscaping crew.

I had someone throw their dog waste bag in my recycle bin. I have had people tell me the grass between the curb and the sidewalk is public property. I'm sorry it is not and you can be fined a 100.00. Dog walkers can be so rude.

Another thing is people with cigarette butts who drop them everywhere and people who empty their car ashtrays in the sidewalk in front of your house.

It's the same arrogant people who take their dogs shopping with them! I don't even think anything affects people like that. They have no consideration for others

Years ago a complete stranger driving by while I was walking my dog read me the riot act for allowing my dog to go on the lawn.

It was MY LAWN, and I told him as much.

I hope he has practiced MYOB since then.

I saw someone write on facebook about taking their dog into Michaels because it was near petsmart and they were pet friendly if I saw a dog at the Michaels (closed now) I shop at I would never go in that store again.

@Suziepeach I have a similar (but smaller) sign in my little front yard. The dog(s) don't use my yard any more, they just use the curb area! And rarely does one particular owner pick up after his dog.

@Krimpette I'm glad the sign is working for you! I don't know what people are thinking, to just stand there and watch their dog do their business & think nothing of it. I may have to get one of those signs for our yard...

Where I live, the "road verges" are owned by the municipality (city gov't). Once you hit the sidewalk, it is not part of the homeowner's yard.
However, I realize, laws vary from state to state.

Since I have security cameras, I've noticed, for some reason, dogs like weeing in a bush I have which is close to the sidewalk.
I'm thinking about putting a small trellis around it.

I stopped planting flowers around my mailbox for that very reason. I have a corner lot. Some people allow their dogs to defecate in my yard too.

To add insult to injury, the school buses stop at my house too. Every morning for years I have hoards of children running through my lawn, picking my flowers and climbing on our vehicles in the driveway. Their mothers sit on the curb with their faces glued to their phones.

I have talked to them many times and my DH has screamed at them.

I have thought about using that "deer be gone" spray that stinks so bad. We use it on our shrubs and it does keep the deer away. It really does smell bad. Maybe it'll work for dogs and kids.

I have tried the cute polite yard signs, but they haven't worked. It's a losing battle.

@Carmie hmmm, I wonder if the 'Deer be Gone' would work in my landscape near the house...the cats in the neighborhood that run wild use it for a litter box. I just would not want the odor to come thru my windows once warm weather arrives.

I had 2 big flowerpots that I planted with trailing plants. Plus other pots. But the last 2 years I no longer put in the work. A board member asked me why I don't do it anymore because she thought it improved the value of the HOA. I told her it was the dogs peeing on the pots. The dog walker even said I had beautiful flowers. Apparently she didn't think anything was wrong with her dog peeing on anything.

Now all my pots are in the backyard, on the patio.

@Mom2Dogs When we first spray it, we keep the windows closed for a while. After it dries, the smell doesn't travel. You have to be up close and personal to get a wiff.

My DH sprayed our young holly bushes yesterday. The deer won't leave them alone.

Around here the property between the curb and the sidewalk is considered public property. That's why any trees on it are maintained by the city. Of course this doesn't excuse people being rude since the homeowner still has to maintain it.

My opinion is dogs shouldn't pee on flowers or plants, garbage bins, leaf bags or really anything that someone is going to have to pick up. Grass on the tree line I think is acceptable.

I don't think a sign would do much.

Can't you put that wrought iron looking plastic edging around it so the dog can't get into it?
