topic What's with the hashtag? in Community Chat

I don't Twitter so not a social media person, but I've noticed on episodes that have social media contents that even after the message there is a hashtag and a word - example, #loud.

Another example that totally dumbfounded me was when Elizabeth on DWTS kept saying, "Hashtag trust", "Hashtag practice". Tom Bergeron addressed this and told her to "Hashtag stop."

Can anyone enlighten me? Just curious.
