Mine were returned from my tax preparer last week. Owed a lot more than expected. <sob>

Found out it is expensive to pay for your own vehicle (which I've always done) by cashing in an investment! I had to pay taxes on the earnings and capital gains on something I've owned since 1975. I've added money to it over the years and let the divideds buy more. Never included this stock in my portfolio with my broker. My broker probably would have warned me if he had known!

Perhaps it would have been less expensive to take out a short (one or two-year) car loan? IDK.

Wrote those tax checks and mailed them last Thursday. Not buying another new car for a couple of years at least! Or, won't take money from a stock that I've held in my own name for decades. Lesson learned.

We filed our taxes the first week of February and received refund in account two weeks later. Owe a small amount to state and haven’t mailed it yet.

Filed ours in mid February using a service provided by AARP. They don't limit it to any age group either.

Preparer finished it within a few days. State refund already direct deposited into checking account. Owe the feds, haven't sent it in yet.

We did ours early, 3rd week in February. Our accountant got them done quickly. We sent in our Federal payment, received our state refund and mailed in our 1st quarter estimated taxes before the virus hit.

@Anonymous032819 : Went to taxman mid February and worried about having to pay but our medical and contributions had increased, and received refund two weeks later. Taxman was impressed with my detailed bookkeeping and all necessary receipts and documents and said he wish he had everyone else that well trained. I promptly asked if he had a military or senior discount? I tried but he said no. I was happy to put all the paperwork away and return to my retirement schedule. Southern Bee

Our were done by our accountant in early March...they are done, and we have mailed in the quarterly's.

Ours was done by "H&R DH"early last month and our small refund came shortly after. Was unusual this year being the first time DH did not have any income from a side job. We are living on his pension and our SSI. Doing fine.

I had an early appointment in March to sit down with my accountant to do my taxes. Well with what is going on, I had to leave my documents, was told they'd get back to me. They called in late March, the return was finished, they would mail it to me. So far they haven't been returned to me or filed. It is a good thing the time to file your taxes was extended three months.

Everything for my empire is done and filed. I dropped all the documents off with my accountant before I went south in February and picked it all up on Friday.

@KKJ We have always sent ours via 'regular mail'. Our accountant has never advised otherswise.

They provide labels for our envelopes with the appropriate address for Federal Government, State and our local school tax.

Just an FYI - the 2020Q1 federal payment that is normally due on 4/15 now isn't due until 7/15. However, the Q2 payment normally due on 6/15 is still due then. I can't speak for how any other state than mine (Michigan) may be handling it.

I pay my taxes, including the quarterly estimates on-line. There's no processing fee if you select direct debit (ACH) or use a debit card. I use my airline affiliated credit card to get miles. There's a processing fee for that, but I earn miles on that as well.

I sat with my new accoutant the first week in March, before the virus restrictions hit. Glad I did! Taxes were e-filed on that date. I did not owe state taxes. Will pay quarterly IRS taxes later as the payment deadline has been extended. I prefer to hold on to my $ as long as legally permitted.

@FrostyBabe1 : I am going to look into the possibility of doing as you do- paying the IRS with my CC. This year my quarterly taxes are higher than usual. Getting cash back on my CC would be absolutely worth paying a processing fee.

Mine were filed a couple of weeks ago. My state refund came in about 3 days. My federal refund came in less than 10 days, as I recall.
