RECOMMENDATION FROM DR. FAUCI **WARNING-- SENSITIVE SUBJECT FOR ANIMAL LOVERS

Dr. Fauci in an interview just called for the abolition of "wet markets" around the world, which have been implicated in the start of viruses like Covid-19. The stacking of cages with live animals, one upon the other, can result in the mingling of secretions, etc. which have proven to be harmful.

He said he'd like to see governments lean on those countries that permit these markets, to no longer have them. That seems like a sensible suggestion.

.... which is why I ALWAYS quickly turn the channel or mute it. It's a matter of consideration for those who are a bit more sensitive to those kinds of things.

Yeah, I was torn, @Deree about wording to describe what goes on. It's so deeply distressing to think of those poor animals and what they go through-- I find it unbearable.

Yet, in order to understand Dr. Fauci's public health concerns, it's necessary to allude to it.

Maybe I can tinker with the title to warn off those who might be upset.

That's easier said than done. Wet markets have been a tradition in China for centuries. Better for the Chinese government to enforce stricter hygiene codes for those places. China in general is a filthy country. Personal hygiene is deplorable. They have inadequate sewage and water treatment plants. In fact many areas of the country have none. Human & animal waste is everywhere. It is even used for fertilizer. What that country needs is a general massive cleanup, starting with the people themselves. It's no wonder almost every major epidemic has its origins in China.

That will never happen in China and some other Asian countries.

I read an article (with horrific photos) just yesterday showing that these markets are still operating in China, including selling bats, cats, dogs, rabbits.

I won't go into any more details than that, it sickens me to even think about it.

The Pandemic was predicted by an author in 2017 (November issue) of "The Smithsonian." Exactly what is described in this thread, she observed and warned about.

I wouldn't worry @Oznell about your title. This information needs to get out there and you posted no sad pictures. I can't watch those commercials on tv either but I appreciate your letting others know about this.

I worked for a lady (in the 1990's) whose husband was a veterinarian. One of their 2 dogs was named Corona after this virus. That's the first time I ever heard the word. I guess he wanted a name no other dog would have. Would not be my choice. Also one of my husband's good friends is a veterinarian. While there is a vaccine for dogs it doesn't always work and corona is very infectious for them, too. It, of course, does not work for Covid 19.

@jubilant, I doubt that the dog being named Corona had anything to do with Covid-19. There is a coronavirus that animas can get but it is not the same as Covid-19. When DH and I got our first dog in 1990, she was in fact vaccinated for coronavirus. Funny thing...her name was Corona, after the beer.

There is no major outbreak of coronavirus in dogs now and there never really was. As my current vet says, that was a vaccine looking for a disease. He won't even give it. He is very against over vaccinating animals and he keeps up on any outbreaks. A couple years ago he gave my dog a flu shot because there was a K-9 flu outbreak in my area.

Anyhow, these are 2 different coronaviruses and Covid-19 spreading now is new which is why it's being called Novel Coronavirus.

I'm glad your dog was named after a beer instead of this virus. My boss was in love with her 2 big dogs and I sensed she would have picked a different name. I have often thought of this since the virus came out and, now, thanks to your post, I can now think.... beer.... when it comes to mind!!!!

A reminder: Always check to see the country of origin when purchasing food, pet food as well. I will not purchase anything from CHINA. If a product will not list the country of origin I will assume its China and not buy it. I see so much of our shrimp supply coming from China and feel Americans are unkowingly consuming harmful neurotoxins and pesticides.

@Buffalogal47 Poverty. I read something about more young people dying from the virus in the South in the U.S. and they are saying this and that and I feel sure it is simple: Poverty. Poverty is the real reason.
