Possible ssa scam?

I just got a letter from the Social Security Admin today. They want me to call Raquel Sanow about entitlements to my spouses benefits. Need to call before April 4th.

Anyone get one of these? Sounds fishy to me.

yes it is a scam. Just googled the phone number to find a lot of people have gotten this letter. Will call ssa Monday to report it. Swarmy bas@#tards!!

OOPS------geez, forgot what the day was-- Monday was yesterday---will call today or email them.

SSA doesn't initiate advice about benefits. If you ask, they can advise, but they don't reach out to you first. Secondly, SSA doesn't have deadlines to respond by April 4 or any such stuff. The only deadline or demanded date you'd get from SSA is if you were not in compliance with something and they'd need clarification or a signature, etc.

There have been all kinds of warnings that the scammers will be out in force, knowing that people will be receiving payments because of the COVID-19 crisis.

They are warning people not to respond to emails, phonecalls or letters, asking for any personal information. The only safe way to contact the IRS or SSA is directly through their own websites or phone numbers.

When in doubt: contact the IRS or SSA directly!

I was speaking with an agent from the IRS last week and she gave me some info. She said they don't call clients before sending a letter. But that is not often she advised to always when you are speaking with someone about an acct always ask them to fill in blanks or some info you know is on your acct. have them give a few digits of acct number or SS acct and you can fill in rest of it.

I think there will be all kinds of new scams now. It was bad enough when they tricked people into giving out their social security numbers and birthdates, etc. around filing time. It will be even worse now with all the stimulus and extra unemployment money in the picture

Wait until those checks go out. Every mail carrier in America will have a trail of thieves following him/her.
