Food Shopping at 6AM

Instacart did not show up yesterday, so my dear almost 65 year old DH is off to Stop and Shop for a list.

I hope he gets at least 85% of what is on the list.

These are some crazy times we are living in

@I am still oxox Gotta say. I usually DO shop right when the store opens. Have actually showed up a half hour early and If the door is open I am doing my shopping while they are still stocking the shelves so I can be at the register to check out " When they open." My obsrvation is there are a LOT MORE people shopping at the early Designaed Senior Hours then there are any other day of the week. I would hope a cleaning is done Every night not just on the nights before Senior Hour. You could always ask. I have gone back to my usual hours and leave the senior hours to otners.

went to Traders yesterday, despite waiting in a line outside, they were fully stocked.

the guys have been going to the Shops Rite and Stop, and report they have pretty much everything as well.

This is our first real market trip we had the food delivered the last two times, but Instacart was wacky yesterday and he is treating this like an adventure. We did stop into a small local Acme two weeks ago and other than meat and paper goods it was fully stocked.

I am not going to complain about anything he brings home.

sounds great, mrjtb likes to grocery shop .

my post was just sort of info for others reading in other parts of the country as well. so they don't think that empty shelves are the norm.

My dad always shopped at 6 am when the grocery stores opened. He didn't need a virus to do it, he was an early riser and liked shopping then the store was first opened.

He is back and he more than exceeded my expectations, everything on the list plus goodies. I wiped down all the cans and packages, tossed the plastic bags and wiped down our bags.

He said it was not busy and well it was an experience.

I have no idea anything about instacart but did see on the news today that they and amazon workers some places are going to on strike

I woke up early yesterday and decided to go to the store when it opened at 7.

Not nearly as crowded as last week. Got everything on my short list, even spray disinfectant and the last container of Clorox wipes.

I shopped during IGA's senior hour this morning. My list was very short and I had a list for my mom.

IGA is doing a great job with stocking and keeping the store open, but now the price increases are showing up. I bought far more than intended to avoid further price increases, and bought more for mom than was on her list for the same reason. Bleach was all gone today, while the toilet paper shelves were full of 4 roll packs of the cheapest paper made; limit of 2 and I bought them for mom, just in case.

We are barely 2 weeks into this new lifestyle, and the strain on the grocery supply chain is still showing. My expectations are for things to get worse than they are now on the grocery front, before they get better.

I got an email from Instacart no cancelation of my Thursday delivery and outlining precautions taken and how they now have precautionary supplies available for shoppers/deliver folks and -Additional sick leave for Instacart employees, and tips/wages etc....And at door delivery to protect customers will be the default....

Strike might just be applying in some areas....

I am still oxox......my stop and shop in southern Ct has been empty of shoppers around 3 pm...the shelves are empty but the meat,fresh fruit veggies have always been stocked....they have the tape on the floors and also the plexiglass between the cashier and customer. Never gone to the early senior shopping but the cashier told me it usually is empty.... store gets crowded around. 9,am he said. No paper products. Good luck to your DH.!

I have a large Instacart delivery scheduled for Wednesday. Hope it shows up because it is full of produce which I am lacking but if it doesn't I definitely have enough food to eat. I would think there are alot of out of work people willing to deliver groceries right now.

We went to Whole Foods this morning around 10:00ish. All carts to be taken into the store had been cleaned and they were asking you to walk them back to the store when they were empty and there were several workers that would take them and wipe them down to be used again. There was one long line at the end of the store with yellow tape 6 feet apart. At that point they were directing you to a register so as to only having one cart at a time. Also plexiglass in between us and the cashier. Thought it was handled well.

They were also pretty stocked, some things more than others. But also had signs of limits on certain items. Did not see TP or paper towels though, I think that is just the luck of the draw.

When I went to the store at 6am two weeks ago during "senior" hour the store was packed! Lots of empty shelves. I was told that it slows down around 10am so tried that the next time.

Seems each area is a bit different!

The email was dated 11:29PM last night 3/29/20, and I received it early this morning....

And I noticed on CNN's press release they changed it SOME Instacart workers plan to go on strike.....

And this was from a report 3 hours ago...."As some Instacart workers prepare to strike Monday, the company is making more updates in a bid to appease."

Some Instacart workers plan to go on strike today, arguing that the grocery delivery unicorn's recent increases in pay and safety equipment are insufficient.

Why it matters: Instacart has become a lifeline for many Americans either unable or unwilling to leave their homes, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic.

What's happening: It's unclear how many drivers plan to strike today, as the organizer intentionally doesn't keep lists (because contractors don't have legal protections from "employer" retaliation) and past gig economy strikes have been more successful on noise than numbers.
