Good point. In a different context, it has been my habit to vacuum daily, and I still will pick up a speck of orange or red glitter (Halloween and Christmas).

@AuntG sometimes i will find glitter on the floor weeks later! on my face i will find a piece of it, hours or few days later, even though of course i have washed my face! i have never liked glitter and dont buy anything with it!

@CherryHugs: I have a SIL that loves glitter and the last three gifts she has purchased for me covered in glitter. The gifts have disappeared because as you stated once in your home- everywhere. Doesn't matter how many times you vacuum or clean a surface can't get rid of it, because months later you still find it somewhere in the carpet and on the furniture. Ihave received cards decorated with glitter and directly goes in the trash. Southern Bee

I was a member at one of our hospital infection control committees and I am a retired pathology lab specialist. In my training days I saw demonstrations of how germs are spread and how to stop the spread of them. Today I'm reliving those days again.

@CherryHugsDuring the bird flu epidemic, I attended a lecture on crisis management. Along with lots of basic science and potical information, the speaker included a survey of information on how we could help protect ourselves. His information made so much sense to me that it created new daily habits for me that are truly relevant right now!

Proper handwashing was at the top of the list, but it was his urging that has had me avoiding as much as possible using my hands to open and close public doors as well as disinfecting my own doors (car included) at least once every day.

All that "glitters" is not gold - especially the "glitter" it's nearly impossible not to carry onto our own properties. Thanks for the reminder of how important our own personal habits are right now.

Wrong! The virus is spread from one person to another, not through inanimate objects. You must be close and breathe the same air in order to get the germ.

It's fine to be clean and wash your hands and surfaces, but that's not how this virus spreads. (You can check this out on UTube's replay of Dr. Osterholm's assessment.)

There's a doctor on Face The Nation right now who's saying this virus spreads mainly by surface contact. Wash your hands and sanitize surfaces. I guess it all depends on which doctor you listen to, or which one is on TV at the moment.

Why bother with hand washing and surface cleaning if they can't be sources of infection?

How do you explain the first case--did some inanimate object breath on an individual causing the patient zero infection?
