Who is still working during this?

Is anyone on here stll working during this virus situation? And if so I THANK YOU for your work whatever it may be! .

Today, my husbands plant of over 8, 000 people closed during this virus by governor order!. He had over 30 days vacation they are not giving him. He works there for 30 years I cant believe they didn't give him his days.. Our health insurance runs out April 30th (as of now could change they said). And I'm praying they rethink this, because I have health issues numerous medications, and he has asthma. My husband will be signing up for unemployment.

My daughter, and 1 granddaughter are out of jobs for now. Signed up for unemployment.

My son in law- his job was saved (working from home) and one other person, and then the boss FIRED PERMANENTLY the 17 other office people! They were crying, all have families, 2 guys have pregnant wives! How could they be so cruel? This is a big sub company of a huge company so not that they are hurting for money. My son in law is still upset for his friends at work. They were crying as they left their offices.

Lastly- my son is still working as of now and scared hes risking his life to get packages out to people, and his wife has her job. She is a licensed funeral person, which is so ironic during these sad times!

This whole thing has sent me into panic disorder which I hadn't had for approx 10 yrs till now. Worrying about everyone in the world, and praying for everyone and praying this ends! And worrying how we are going to pay our bills if this goes on for months.

I was wondering what happened with your jobs if you still have jobs? And how are you coping? I know there are many in this situation.

I am in CA and still working from my office. We are at 50% working from home and going to 75% by the end of next week. I do escrow for a title company and we are trying to complete the refinaces and the closing of sales of homes to try and help with keeping some of the economy going.

To be honest, I guess I should personally be more worred about the virus but I am not. I am worried about my elderly mom and some friends and family but I am just plucking along under different circumstances. Its weird how everyone reacts so differently to this situation.

My nephew is a community college teacher. He's teaching via online. His wife is a nurse; she used to work in the ED but has moved on to a non-essential area so isn't required to go to work. She has been asked to test other workers. However, they are low on PPE so she would prefer not to. She's 45 years old.

I worry the next horrible thing coming will be mass suicides from people who lost their jobs and more....🙁

My husband is one of a skeleton crew of engineers who are still working-- they have been classified as being in the "defense" sector, therefore essential, so thus far they have been still going in to the job. But a large percentage of the other workers are working from home.

I had a concern about suicides also, @SeaMaiden , due to the occurrences of those during the Depression; however, I do think and hope that circumstances will mitigate against that in this instance. At the very beginning of the Depression, many people were wiped out, and saw no recourse on the horizon. I think efforts are being strenuously made in the course of this virus, that will help people economically and also instill some hope. I hope!

The majority of office staff was switched to work from home as of Monday this week. One never knows, but I don't foresee layoffs or anything like that. We've been through a three year restructuring, so we're pretty lean. Sorry about your husband and family. Layoffs are tough. Been there, done that.

Still working, yes. We are rolling out telework so everyone who is willing to work at home can. If you don't want to work from home you can take PTO. Unsure what you'll do when you exhaust it. Our IT support is stretched pretty thin.

DS lost his gig job but he'll be okay as his bills are few. He doesn't have insurance. He's welcome to couch surf here which he plans on. He's actually a big help around the house.

Son works for Cvs pharmacy works 5 days some weeks more.

I'm working (from home) I work at a university. The school is closed and all employees are working remotely (online) My husband is a government employee. Before this virus thing he worked 3 days online at home. The other 2 days in the office. Now he's at home, like me working online. There are a few working online for work.

I'm more worried about rioting. Seriously. Today I went to the supermarket with police in squad cars outside and inside the store.....there is more danger of this then anything elese.

My husband at the power plant non stop. My DIL at an assisted living home and also my son's girlfriend who also works at an assisted living home. My son is working online as a Navy recruiter can work from home and watches the kids. My sister still drives Uber. This is an interesting thread.

My husband is still working, a mechanic at UPS.

Their business right now is up and down, varying by the day. I'm guessing the delivery services will be some of the last taken down, most likely not at all.

I'm grateful he is still working, and at the same time, kind of not opposed to him being laid off, just to no have to be out and exposed to the chances.

Even at this early stage in things, it feels like life will never be 'normal' again. Things are just so surreal.

I've been working full time from home. We were informed a week ago we should plan to work from home for about three weeks. I'm fortunate that my job offers me this flexibility as many others do not.

We are in Northern Arizona and thankfully DH and I are retired (Federal Govt; great pension) and our younger son lives with us. He is still employed, 30 hrs a week, at Subway, but we all know that could end any day now. Fortunately, he lives with us so his expenses are in check. If/when he loses his job he can probably get a job stocking at a big box store. As most of you know, we "rescued" our Grands from CA this week (they are having a great time with us).

My daughter is an RT so still working of course as I am because I am a nurse. My son manages a grocery store so he is also going to work.

My husband, son and daughter are all working. Husband working long hours at nuclear plant, son works at Wal Mart d.c., he won't lose his job, and daughter is doing counseling over the phone, not seeing patients but still has to go to the office, which she is not happy about. She lives out of state, I told her to quit and come home, but she won't do it. I'm just praying they don't get this.

DH called me earlier, and said he was nausious, and I fell apart.

I think its just all this fear of the unknown that is really getting me.

@Shorty2U First, I don't think the company can legally not pay out vacation time at time of separation. They don't have to pay sick time, but from what I understand, vacation time must be paid out when an employee leaves the company.

I'm working full time, but honestly, it's really strange to be at work when most of the town is staying at home. We are all trying to keep our distance from each other, and wear gloves, but the stress of what is happening is difficult to manage. I pretty much go to work, go home for lunch, back to work, and then back home.

It will be a challenge to stay home all weekend. My plans are to work in the yard if the weather cooperates, and clean my house.

@Shorty2U, I know nothing about labor laws, but that doesn't seem right that they aren't paying your husband for his vacations. Its sorry alright, but it doesn't seem legal to me. Could you call the attorney general, or labor board and check and see if this is legal or not?

I'm very sorry, there are so many in this situation, and honestly, it could be any of us.

Who would have thought anything like all this would have happened to begin with? I didn't have a clue what we were gonna be dealing with. I still can't believe it.
