Chloroquine as Treatment?

Am reading that in China and S. Korea they have found the anti-malarial drug chloroquine is an effective treatment for those in the hospital wih CV - and it may also be a preventative .

Anyone else heard this?.

Yes - Dr. Fauci (sp?) said they will be evaluating the effectiveness of this an other antivirals.

Yes, I heard that it was in combination with zinc.

I do read some alternative websites, so can't vow for accuracy.

Professor Didier Raoult from infection hospital l'Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire (IHU) Méditerranée Infection in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur):

A renowned research professor in France has reported successful results from a new treatment for Covid-19, with early tests suggesting it can stop the virus from being contagious in just six days.

Chloroquine - which is normally used mainly to prevent and treat malaria - was administered via the named drug, Plaquenil.

He said that the first Covid-19 patients he had treated with the drug chloroquine had seen a rapid and effective speeding up of their healing process, and a sharp decrease in the amount of time they remained contagious.

Plaque nil is a known treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. I take it daily. It would be wonderful if it could be used to treat covid19.

@MalteseMomma, if this virus follows pattern you will be immune from getting the same strain again. That goes with the caveat that currently there are two known strains of the covid-19 virus in circulation.

Another thing to keep in mind is that at this time, to my knowledge, it has not been determined if covid-19 is one of the viruses that can go dormant (sometimes for years) in your body post infection then come back again. Measles, HIV and shingles are just three examples. Another example is post-polio syndrome.

This is under study. The answer is still unknown. My answer comes from multiple officials, such as Dr. Fauci.

Maybe I should start drinking lots of tonic water because that contains quinine which is the mother drug of all anti-malarials.

Yes I think there may be more than one being tested. I'm also glad to hear from FDA that doctors can use the medicines on a compassionate use basis as well before testing is completed.

My husband told me about it. It's been around for many years and has been used for malaria (which one reason folks in the U.S. have not herd of it) There are some side affects, but at least death is not one of them. Headaches, hair loss, rash and loss of appetite. Side effects can't be too severe, because is still in use today.
