When I stepped out on my back deck this morning, I noticed that there weren't as many birds around.

it was eerie, creepy and spooky.

it's like even they know that something is going on.

Who knows, maybe the birds are self quarantining too.

@Anonymous032819 Maybe there was a hungry hawk in the area. I say that because an hour ago the birds at my feeder all flew away. When I looked up at the sky there were two hawks circuling, looking for their lunch I guess.

My birds are still in the normal supply. Haven't noticed any change from normal numbers.

It's getting to be springtime in Chicago and they appear to be chirping and chattering.

I noticed that at our bird feeders this morning. Our son finally figured out why - there was a mockingbird that was chasing all the birds that came to the feeder. DH took the feeders down, in the hopes that the mockingbird will move on. We'll put the feeders back out tomorrow.

@Anonymous032819, are you feeling any better than you were last night? I looked for the thread you had started and couldn't find it.

We have a lot of cardinals. And I saw a few bluebirds and robins earlier. I saw the first bird of the year flying out of one of our birdhouses. I think it was a bluebird. Spring is coming no matter what. The fruit trees are blooming and I wish I knew how to take a picture and post it on here, because they are beautiful.

I noticed one day last week, the birds were unusually quiet. I thought maybe it was a hawk or that they could see or sense something in the area that I couldn't.

@Ladylaughsalot The mockingbird is in a tree reading the newspaper and having coffee waiting for tomorrow.

One used to wake me up early early in the morning singing. They are NOT my favorite birds. One used to torment the meanest cat God ever made when I was growing up.

They are a force to contend with! GOOD LUCK!

@Anonymous032819 Isn't there a Pacific storm coming into to California about this time or soon? That could affect the birds. I don't think they know about the virus, just the Bird Flu.

@Anonymous032819 , when the birds go quiet and the squirrels stop moving, there's always a predator in the area.

Ground predator like fox or coyote, not just a cat.

Or eagle, hawk, etc flying in the area.

I get those twice a year as they fly through on their migration routes. They may be stopped for a snack.

In the past 2 weeks saw article - with NO details - about thousands of birds caught up in a storm - lawns were covered with the dead. I re-read to find out where and what kind of birds............with no luck. Talk about a half a story. Grrr

Birds are prey for something bigger and often know there's a hungry hunter in the area.

Be it a hawk, cat, or snake - they know to be unavailable for that particular breakfast or lunch date if you know what I mean.

It's still a bit early for birds here, but I did see one fly by my window almost as fast as the UPS driver.

But, soon they will be getting up early sometimes around 4 am chirping loudly outside my bedroom window.

Mockingbirds used to bother my mother's cat. Then she caught one. They still bothered her, but...

It's rainy here in CA where I live so fewer birds are out.
