I Almost Hit An Owl!

I leave for work ridiculously early, meaning, it's still dark out.

Yesterday, I was driving on the highway, which consists of two lanes going North, and two lanes going South, when suddenly from out of nowhere, comes this owl headed straight for my windshield!

I swerved a little, ( there was no other traffic), when at the last possible moment, the owl finally pulled up, and flew over my car.

I was like, "Dam owl! That's why you have wings! It's easier for you to avoid me, than it is for me to avoid you!"

That owl was huge!

And here I thought that owls were supposed to be "wise"! *lol*

The owl probably got caught up in the draft created by your oncoming car at highway speed. Lucky for both of you! I have only seen an owl once. Can't miss it! They are very large.

Years ago my daughter had a hawk fly right into her car grill! He died on impact and she literally had to drive to the mechanic so he could help her remove it. She was really shaken up by it, she was about 19 at the time.

Wow, that had to be scary. Thankfully, it didn't cause you to have an accident. Who would have thought an owl would be on the highway?

A few years ago, a wild turkey flew into the windshield of our car while my husband was driving. It hit on the passenger side where I was sitting. My husband was calm, but I almost had a heart attack.

I am glad I wasn't driving. Things like that unnerve me.

We have wild bunnies all over the area where I live and those.......things dart and zig zag at the last minute---and I did hit one once that made me cry-----DUMB BUNNIES !!!!!! My hubs got run into by a duck on his way to work one a.m.------and then there are the deer that feel the need to jump into traffic too---that is really scary---seen that happen up ahead of me but was able to avoid it.

An incident like that can shack you up. It is good you had control of your senses and did not panic in the moment.

We had a beautiful white owl hit the wall on our deck a few years ago. I found him when I came home from the store and DH had to bury him. I was so sad I just couldn't get near him. Deer are a dime a dozen around here but owls are quite special.

A few years ago, my sister was on her way to work and she found an owl that was hurt by the side of the road. She stopped. Called me. I took a towel and a pet carrier or a box, I can't remember and some of DH's leather gloves. By the time I got there, a guy had stopped.

Well anyway, the three of us got that beautiful owl into the box or carrier. I brought it home with me. Put it in the extra bathroom, opened the box or container, got it water. The owl came out and I will admit, I was shocked by the size of its tallons and wondered if me and sis were nuts.

Called around and found a vet that would take him. The vet had him good as new in about 3 weeks I think, let him go.

While on my way to work one night, an owl flew directly into the headlight of my car while trying to catch a field mouse!

With traffic behind me, all I saw was feathers, and I couldn’t stop, so checked it out the next morning when I went home, and there was the dead owl.

@Anonymous032819 Glad you avoided the collision! A few years ago, we were driving north on I-81 in PA and we saw a ring-necked pheasant crossing the road. Even though they were ubiquitous when we were little, our son had never seen one. They are no longer stocked, as far as I know. Just as he was exclaiming over the sighting, we hit the poor bird. My DH said he couldn't swerve due to the traffic. So sad!

If you can imagine, a wild turkey flew into my husbands windshield, same scenario, early on a two lane road. We live on mostly woodland and in the 45 years we have lived here I have never seen an owl, I hear them all the time though. Glad all is well that ends well.

Well, seeing as how I am past menopause.........
