So sad to hear this. I never heard anything but wonderful things about her. I could see her with a line of household and fashion on the Q.

It still disturbs me that her husband moved his mistress into their home. It seemed so disrespectful to his wife.

Sorry to hear this. I used to watch her TV show. I read several interviews with her husband since her diagnosis- she was only in her early 60s when diagnosed- and it was so sad.

I loved watching her show. I have heard nothing about a mistress living in her house...and hope it is t true. If it is, the scumbag husband shouldn’t be getting a red cent of her estate.

She was as gracious in person as she was on the cover of Mademoiselle magazine or her TV shows. I met her twice at her Manhattan restaurant many years ago, where she always stopped to talk and welcome everyone. She remembered my mother when I brought her in the second time and they had a lovely, warm conversation.

I had a feeling the whole mistress situation would be mentioned. I’m not going to judge, especially since the family appeared ok with it. The woman he knew as his wife was long gone and he was overwhelmed trying to take care of her. The woman who became his girlfriend started out as a platonic relationship. She moved in and helped care for B. No judgement from me. He was very upfront with the kids and from what I’ve heard the only judgement has come from outsiders who don’t even know the parties involved.

Just saw this and felt so sad...so young!

I dined a few times at her restaurant in Washington, DC. It was a delightful place and a reflection of her calm and grace...and the food was great.

What a shame.

B's husband has been VERY VERY VERY open about his

relationship with another woman.

It might have been something they agreed upon before B

entered the latter stages of Alzheimer's.

I applaud his transparency

We have absolutely NO RIGHT to judge him on matters of love.

Sandra Day O'Connor's husband was in a memory care unit and tell in love with a fellow patient. Sandra was OK with this arrangement.

What a loving and gracious wife, allowing her husband's paramour to live with them. My understanding was that she was helping out in the home.

I always wear the sterling bracelet from her--I believe I bought it from QVC?--I never take it off--I must have it at least 10 years--it's an open heart cuff--the hearts go up & the next one goes down--it's all open hearts--I love this so much that I even bought it then for my 3 daughters--rest in peace----------------mary nj

She was such a beautiful lady with a wonderful life, until robbed by this horrible disease.

I lost my mom in 2017, after a ten year downward spiral with Alzheimer's. I managed her care with a 24 hr/day sitter for safety. This allowed me to keep her out of a nursing home, as promised at the onset of her diagnosis. But, I fear it's taken years off my own life.

I learned that the most important thing for the loved one, or caregiver is support, wherever they can find it. That's if they want to keep their own mind and health. I'm glad the husband had someone else by his side to help him navigate the journey. It was, in no way, a betrayal. It becomes survival.

It deeply saddens me to learn of her passing! We lost a beautiful treasure, but heaven gained an ANGEL. I was a huge fan of her television show, and was in awe of her DIGNITY, style and grace. She was indeed a trailblazer, leaves an indelible mark, and I'm sure those who knew her, feel they are better off because of it. I am sending prayers of solace and healing for her loved ones, and everyone else blessed enough to have known her. ❣❣❣

I always loved her sense of style, which extended to home interiors and entertaining, and that innate style manifested itself in her varied, eclectic career.

A stunning beauty, and gracious lady. I knew about her heart-breaking diagnosis, but had not heard anything about her in some years. RIP B. Smith.

I’m not judging. From all accounts, her husband and girlfriend ( and daughter) took very good care of her and she was able to live at home. I read Dan Gasby’s book a while ago. They did the best they could in a difficult situation. Sad to hear she passed.
