My 1st Solo Grocery Venture In Forever.

I actually got myself to the grocery store, albeit a small family owned one, for the 1st time since my TKR 3 months ago today and my hip replacement in 9/18. I took my cane and off I went. DH either went with me or he went when my joints went to h*ll.

My knee was okay although I still have pain on the outer right side of the dumb thing. My back was not happy, but I did it.

Getting in the house was entertaining. Set the 4 bags at the bottom of the porch steps, then up to the porch, then next to the door, then into the laundry room. I intentionally left my walker with a seat there and put all the bags on the walker and rolled into the kitchen. Success.

Not ready to tackle Wegmans but it's a start.

Good for you!

I know my neighbor had a knee replacement and she won't give her walker up even though they say she's ready.

My mom had hip surgery years ago and it never healed right and she was on a walker until she passed.

I'm glad yours went well.

Get one of the collaspable carts with the wheels that will go up and down steps easy and put grocery bags in it to get into the house...

@Monketoes Got so tired of having to get hubby to carry all the bags in...I got one of those carts a few years ago and it works like a charm. I was surprised how much I could get in the cart and how easy it was to pull up the stairs. @CrazyKittyLvr2 get one you will love it!

I, or we, don't do the typical grocery shopping anymore. We shop online for all our food, once a week. We let Walmart do the shopping, and my BF picks it up, when he gets home from work. We LOVE this service, and it doesn't cost anything! Every once in a while, they are out of something, so we either go without, or go out to another store.

i can totally identify with your feeling of accomplishment. i went alone to the grocery store myself this month for the first time since last june, and the feeling was kind of hard to describe ... but i know that you know!

Thanks to everyone for the good wishes!! I remember when I considered a big accomplishment successfully get a million dollar closing done. Now it's going to the grocery store myself. lol

Good for you! it does take time. What bothered me most was when people told me they knew people who were back to playing tennis after three weeks, and then I felt like a failure.

I found the ice machine really helped even more than any pain

medication. But ultimately, you will be fine.
