Clothing gets washed in cold. Towels and sheets get washed in hot.

Workout clothing gets washed in warm.

I only have one temp on my old washer that works and I think its cold...

beggers can't be choosy lol

I had the motor replaced in my old dryer 3 years ago and it works great! The repairman told me they only make appliances to last 10 years not like in the old days where they can last a long time.

I wash everything except whites (which includes my towels) in warm water, my whites/towels are washed in hot

Hot for whites--towels, undies, dish towels/ cloths---not all in the same loads , of course---

And warm to cool for the others

colored clothes in warm and white and towels in hot water, thats how my mom and grandmother allways did it.

Yes, everything. I'm not all that concerned about germs and the dryer, IMO, should take care of that.

This will not be a popular answer.

We use totally all cold water.

90% of energy expended is from using warm/hot water.

Hundreds of pounds of carbon emissions will be saved each year by using cold water.

There really is no difference using warm water vs. cold water in terms of cleaning.

Items such as cloth diapers (who even uses them) can be washed in hot water but it really is not necessary.

All cold water is the greener option; and using liquid detergent instead of powder (which really doesn't dissolve well in cold water) is better.

Detergent manufacturers have developed better cold water detergents through the years; and some washing machine manufacturers are now promoting cycles that rely only on cold water.

I know some of you are going to come back with "my clothes do not come out clean in cold water" or "whites need hot water" - but keep in mind some of you are following what your parents or grandparents did decades ago.

Getting stuck in only one way doesn't have to be-try to break away from old methods and you might be surprised.

And the prize is a stronger eco-friendly method.

Everything now in warm water. Used to wash towels in hot. Thought it a waste. They come out as clean in warm water. Even cotton. Technically it used to be hot. But my husband adjusted the temps. So now it's warm.

In the summer, I wash everything in cold water.

In the winter time, cold water is freezing, so I use the Cool feature on my washer.

I am a big fan of Lysol Laundry Sanitizer. I use it a lot.

I do all the laundry for two elderly ladies..one who is in a SNF since December and sometimes for a single mother and her teenage daughter when they are low on $$ or time.

My electric bills would kill me if I used hot water.

I have never used hot water on anything. I use warm & cold water. The reason why I ask was I saw something on the news that you should be washing everything in cold water. They specially said to use cold for work out clothes because warm & hot water will keep the perspiration smell in the clothes where cold will get rid of it. I also saw that the Beekman boys said they wash everything in cold water.

Tried washing in cold and did not think it got things clean.
