Which Would You Drop

I started another thread in the electronics forum about possibly cutting the cord and going with Hulu Live. I currently have subscriptions to Netflix and Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime costs $119 for the year you get free shipping, I think you would need to spend $35 to get free shipping if you aren't signed up for Prime. I also subscribe to Netflix for $12.99. I'm thinking of dropping Prime, I would miss The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but I don't know if I would miss anything else. I need to cut back, I was wondering what would you drop?

If I didn't care about the other prime benefits I'd drop it. I rarely find any programs on amazon that I care to watch.

A $25 purchase on Amazon gets you free shipping, although it takes longer than 2 days to get it. If you can live with that you can cancel Prime.

I am an Amazon shopper and use many of the benifits that come with it. If I was only using movies and TV shows I would drop if.

Agree with the$25, @PinkyPetunia , but I often get faster shipping service then when I did Prime.

With Subscrbe & Save, no minimun purchase. However, I usually do 5 items at a time 'cause it's a better discount. Somethings come faster than others. For instance just got Jovan Musk this morning; which came much sooner than expected; my furbaby's glucosomine, treats and Crave haven't arrived yet!

It would seem to me Netflex would have to go.

How much is a non Prime membership? Will you save w/a downgrade? If so, I would go that route too.

I cut the cord about 8 years ago and don't miss it at all. I had Netflix but never watched it, so dropped it about 5 years ago. I have Prime and a Fire Stick and will occassionally watch shows or movies. I'll turn subscription channels off and on if there is a series I want to watch - as I did with HBO and Game of Thrones and Starz for Dublin Murders. Also, with Prime, I'll turn on/off subscription channels when they have a free week or month promo. Overall, after cutting the cord, I just found that I don't watch much TV.

There is no way I would drop Prime, I use everything. I watch as much on Prime as Netflix. You have to do what works for you. I know all of those services add up.

I can live, and have lived, happily without Prime. I always find enough stuff to get their free shipping and I'm in no hurry to get any of it. If I needed something right now, then I get my butt to the store and do it the old-fashion way...in the checkout lane.

I'm a long-time Directv customer, almost 20 years running, and I have no desire to view programs on my TV via streaming. That's not why I bought a big 4K TV. I want to see the best I can get and streaming doesn't cut it...not by a long shot.

Around here a good quality high-speed internet connection costs nearly as much as what I pay for satellite TV and a good internet connection is vital if you want to see a quality picture w/o buffering issues.

i would drop prime.

i would drop mine now also if we did not get the student discount.

i do have full cable service though.

@SilleeMee Completely agree. We have RCN cable/internet/phone. I do not see where dropping cable would save us any money. An internet connection is still required and if it fails so does the TV???!! And the cost of having several "streaming" services adds up. We have investigated our options and are sticking with RCN.

BTW, we dropped Prime awhile ago. We wait until we have several items to order and then the shipping is free and not in any great rush to receive them.

I have RCN too and it would cost me more to cut the cord.....The streaming services are starting to have price increases (one had not one, but two price increases last year), and states and cities are starting to assess an amusement tax fee on these services too.....The monthly fee on streaming seems like a bargain, but before you know it, you start missing certain channels you used to have, and start adding in channels--$5 here, $10 there...and in the long run, before they know your bill is more than cable....also keep in mind the bill for high speed internet, and the monthly phone bill too...since you lose your bundling discount too....

Technically there is no such thing as a non Prime membership. You either buy it or you don't.

I wouldn't worry about what'd we would do. Which do you use most often? I use Amazon Prime services for many things, so I wouldn't drop that. It also has no monthly option, so that's an easy annual subscription for me.

There are so many monthly options I tend to rotate through them. If Netflix has something I want, I'll do Netflix for the month. If Hulu has something I want, I'll drop Netflix and pick up Hulu for a month. I'm waiting for Picard to finish on CBS All Access so I can drop Netflix and pick up All Access for a month. Then I'll do the same for Apple + for the Mandolorian when it finishes the season.

I have amazon prime, i order quite alot, what i have found is i go out to store to get a product,and it is not stocked on shelves,so i have to order on line, i also like comparing prices, but i also have netflix, i don't use it much.

You get a heck of lot more from Prime than free shipping and $119 is less than $10 a month. If I had drop one of them, I'd drop Netflix which is only tv programs and movies. Still, saving $10 or $12 a month wouldn't do anything for my budget, nothing at all. I could save that by save that by cutting back at the grocery store by buying store brands and cutting back a little on other things.

If you wouldn't miss Prime, then sure drop it. You can always start it up again if you find yourself wishing you had it back.

I tried Nexflix and it wasn't what I thought might suit me. We buy stuff from Amazon almost every week, and being a Prime member is worth it for us. They have enough movies that suit me, but I honestly don't watch many movies. I DVR a lot of them from the Former Military Channel, and Encore Western Network.

Can't offer you anything about choice. I think it depends on which you feel suits you best.

What I have done:

With my cable & Internet provider it is actually less $ per month to have one TV on cable along with my Internet, which is the lowest speed & cost available

Other TV's have Hulu, which cost I share with my son, who lives nearby

No Prime. If I want something from Amazon I either wait until I have enough in my order to meet the minimum for free shipping, or I ask a family member or friend to order the item for me and pay them for it.

I, too have to manage my monthly bills and keep them all to a minimum.

Oddly, the only only one I have that is free is Hulu and that is probably the first one I'd drop.

I wouldn't drop Prime yet unless it got a lot more expensive. Netflix is so little, but I'd probably drop that before Prime because Prime has so many more benefits.

I'd love to see my cable bill less, as it's $248 a month with everything and whatever taxes they charge. But it is for landline, very good internet including my home network, and cable that includes pretty much all the channels (incl the premium cable, HBO, SHO, etc channels) plus three cable boxes and two cableCARDS/tuning adapters. I guess, for all that, it probably is worth it.

PS: I could have sworn Prime went up to more but I just had my renewal late last month and it was only $109. I wonder if they give the old-timers a break or something (?). I could have sworn it went up to $129 not long ago, but I could be wrong as I CRS most of the time.
