Royal Question

I saw this picture and would like someone who has more knowledge than I do about the Royals to answer.

Prince Philip is wearing the hat of the Foot Guards. It is the ceremonial hat of the Buckingham Palace Guards, St James Palace Guards and Tower of London Guards.

I do not think that Prince Philip was a Foot Guard. Why would he be wearing their hat?

Prince Phillip is the Duke of Edenburgh ( don't know if spelled right) and the hat is part of his uniform.

It's a part of a military uniform.

Straight from Google:

However, he does in fact hold eight military appointments, including Royal Honorary Colonel of the Royal Wessex Yeomanry and The London Regiment. For Trooping the Colour, Edward wears the uniform of The London Scottish, a company of the London Regiment, and eight medals, many of which are commemorative.

Thanks, Master chef and RoughDraft. I knew there had to be a reason. He wouldn't show up in the wrong uniform.

He was the honorary Colonel of the Genadier unit of foot soldiers He should have a white bit on the left side of his hat and buttons placed singly.

Andrew took over at some point, but ...

The Queen is the most senior "head".

My mother looks exactly like the queen, especially pictured here. (What a cute pic of her.)

Long before they *met*, my father (Navy) used to have to salute my mother every morning when she boarded the ferry he ran (Philippines) over to the American Embassy.

She was smitten.

He was not.
