New Barbies for 2020

Barbie has taken on some new shapes, colors and themes including vitiligo and baldness. I confess to not being sure if Ken has a new rocker look or if it is a transgender Barbie. It is Ken. I particularly appreciate the wheelchair, prosthesis and bald Barbie. 1 in 4 Barbies sold have been the wheelchair version. Right on Mattel!

Amazing... Ken with long blonde hair... Excluding the vintage models, there are thirty current versions of Ken (or some sort of male doll) alone... Mattel must be raking it in... There's even a model with a man bun...

Why is there never a pudgy or obese Barbie? They idealize her figure but then add all of these variations.

Please don’t flame me but I have to disagree what is being done to Barbie. I am over 65. I grew up with Barbie, got my first one with the long blonde ponytail in 1960(I think). I never felt body shamed by the doll. She was beautiful and fun. She had beautiful clothes and if you ever read her books and magazines she had fun adventures and great friends. I think it’s great to make a line of all inclusive dolls but why not make them not Barbie? Same goes for Ken. Just my opinion. Thank you.

@PilatesLover The blonde wheelchair Barbie was available at Wal-Mart last year.

The Barbie with vitiligo was also available and was also AA.

The Barbie with the artificial leg was blonde, same leg, but the leg was grey in color.

The long hair Ken was also available.

These are probably updated for 2020.

@Kachina624 There is a "curvy" Barbie and was available at Wal-Mart last year. I don't know if it is still available. She was white with brown hair.

The doll was obviously "pudgy" but using the word "curvy" was apparently more sensitive (PC).

None of these are the simple Barbie dolls I knew. Rename the line if you're going to make all those "changes."

When I "played Barbie" as a kid, our dolls had different attributes every time we got them out. We created all sorts of different fantasy lives for them. I mean, we "pretended". We built houses and props for them and made clothes. I never had a Ken but as we got older, Barbie had a budding romance with "pretend" Ken.

All I ever really wanted was the "bendable" Barbie (never got one). Regular Barbie was a little awkward when riding my horse statues with her legs straight out.

I guess Mattel felt it had to do something with Barbie & Ken to keep them relevant. At Christmas time I participate in donating toys to different organizations to distribute to kids..... According to the wish lists it seems the Disney Princesses, American Girl Dolls, and something called Boxy Girls seems to be more popular than Barbie nowadays...

Im glad the Bratz dolls are no longer around...They were somewhat controversial because of their heavy makeup, perceived attitude, and skimpy outfits. The American Psychological Association raised concerns in 2007 about the influence Bratz dolls, among others, might have on the body image and over-sexualization of young girls...The brand has gone through a lot of relaunches. The line ceased production in 2016 due to low sales.

Then there were the "Thuggie Dolls"......

Each came packaged in a cardboard “jail cell” with a “rap sheet” describing his or her crime — and the penalty being paid. For instance, “Bonnie Ann Bribe” is said to be serving time by reading to senior citizens an hour a day. Bonnie, who did not read in first grade, wanted to bribe her way through school. “Dwight Collared Grimes,” who wears a pin-striped suit and a tie and, according to his rap sheet, used to have his hand in other people’s cookie jars, is said to be “presently on cookie-baking duty.”

Transformation or not.....thankful for Barbie dolls...

Although I dont like the "man bun" on dolls or in real life...LOL

I'm disturbed that those Bratz dolls lack noses. It's like they're mermaids or part tropical fish.

Barbies certainly are still relevant to little girls....says the grandmother of two of them. They have many types of toys, including trucks, building toys, and more. They do like Barbies, best. They call them their "girls".
