I sit and watch these shows about real life people loosing their life by the hand of others.

It is amazing how the killer or attacker barely

gets punished....amazing.

Even the few ( and it’s very few that get life) often get out of jail within a few years.

I had a conversation Just this morning with my 39 year old daughter about how people my age remember how things USED to be. Some changes have been for the better, but some...not so much.

It used to to be when you took a life either you were in jail forever or you died.

But then I come from Virginia. We had a gentleman named Paul Ebert....But he retired.

How do you think you’d feel if someone you loved was even hurt by another person...just because?

no family members luckily....

When I was in HS in my town, a family of 4 was killed by a hammer, by a family "friend". I don't think I know any of them but I remember the family name.

My sister's friend's, sister was murdered by her boyfriend and put in a trunk.

recently.....My friend's brother was beaten to death by a father and son over a stolen item (skateboard maybe) by the time it came to trial, time served.... they got out.

I drove past Stateville on the day John Wayne Gacy was being executed. I think there was 3 protesters.

Iwatch a lot of the Justice Channel and Court TV on weekends when there's no court. Used to watch ID a lot. Seems like almost everyone gets life or life without parole. Many get the death penalty

Well when I get a chance I will post some of the real cases so you can see the few years these people get.

I’m not at my lop top but I’ll be sure to post them so you can see it.

There are numerous cases where the person in prison is not guilty, too. I am very much against the DP.

@Preds, so much of this is anecdotal. We would have to be privy to all the information in a case to determine whether justice was served. And then, of course, the idea of justice can be subjective.

But to say that almost no murderers are punished is just hyperbolic flame-throwing.

@Kachina624 Yeah, they get life. If it’s not life without parole, they are getting out in probably 20 years.

I also watch ID and have seen so many cases of not many years. And..watch when they let the murderer make a plea deal. Many murderers do not serve sufficient time.

Prisons are crowded.

Everything is subjective @suzyQ3 . That's why there are discussions, debates, lawyers and jurors. Now, I'm off to look up some of the words you use because I don't know what they mean. I think I do, but I want to make sure.

I do know that justice is served in degrees. I know that some are crucified and some are set free. That is our fault. Our system is flawed and it seems to be getting worse. This is just my opinion and no disrespect is ment toward any view held.

IMO the big disparity between crime and time-served is in rape cases, not murder. No proof. Just an opinion.

I do believe in the DP but only in witnessed murders or those proven beyond the shadow of a doubt. I think if it were a family member murdered I would have to work on forgiving that person and not living with hate in my heart. I believe forgiveness sets you free from that person. Your not condoning what they did. You are acknowledging what they did, seeing justice carried out, then letting it go and working toward that freedom from hate.

I can tell you this much. If someone raped, defiled, and brutally murdered my 9 year old granddaughter , and I knew the last thoughts of that sweet gentle child was that of such horror, the person that did it could not be put to death soon enough to suit me.

I guess that definitely would put me in the pro death sentence catagory.

I think what bothers me most is every single day there is a story about a person being killed by a loved one or someone who knows someone. And the children, the poor little innocent children that are stabbed, beaten, sexually abused until they are dead. Why, why would anyone do this? And the little ones being tortured until they die, no one should have to die that way, a small innocent child? What is our world coming to?

@Kachina624 If the cases are bad enough to make it to TV, it's no surprise they get a harsher punishment than those that don't.

I have had privy to the discussing details about people being murdered complete with pictures of the way they were found and the autopsy pictures and notes to determine the manner of death.

Some of those killed were infants, small children and the elderly.

One elderly lady was robbed and then set on fire in her garage while she was alive. She was very old and frail. My police Officer DH found her during a welfare check on her home. He was the crime scene investigator, our son who works in a different Police Dept miles away, had to notify this unfortunate women's daughter of her mother's death.

The disgusting piece of filth who committed this murder is out there. He served very little time.

Many of the killers are serving life terms, but not all of them. They are walking out in public with the rest of us.

Someone thought they deserved a second or even third chance. Not me.

Anyone who believes that all rapists, murderers, arsonists, thieves, and other criminals are in jail is a fool. Many are out on the streets.
