Changes to Social Security Disability 2020

There maybe changes to the Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income programs in 2020.

The review process could be more often for some medical conditions.

Continuing Disability Reviews (CDR's) are very stressful for people collecting benefits.

It is the holiday season and I only saw two articles about these changes.

As understaffed as they are now they will never be able to do reviews timely or to get to them at all.

I am not great posting links from my tablet.

I am a long time member of a Disability support group. Members receive emails about any proposed changes to SSA/SSDI /SSI.

Forbes. Com had a short article about the proposed changes to Social Security Disability policy.

I went to the federal site and read the complete reg changes and left a comment.

Kasier Family Foundation. org should have an article online.

eta...I think it’s a good idea that cases will be reviewed periodically. Health situations can and do improve. Recipients shouldn’t worry about a review if they truly are disabled. If they aren’t working “under the table” or enjoying activities now that they couldn’t at the time if their claim, why would they worry?

I am not familiar with the changes but they are required to do these reviews periodically so that they can make sure one is still entitled to benefits.

There always were reviews unless the diagnosis was a lifelong disability with no chance of recovery that was well documented.

It normally takes people a long time to be approved for benefits.
SSA uses independent doctors to do evaluations in some review cases. They may want more medical information including your doctors notes.
The agency needs paperwork to be returned in a timely matter. Most folks are stressed out over a CDR.
Disabled people need their monthly allowance and Medicare.
Cheating SSA is fraud.

@Nuttmeg Yes, a long time and often a lawyer. Why a lawyer? SS employees can explain the forms if that’s the problem.

The timely return of documents and additional medical information in exchange for unearned money shouldn’t be a burden. Using independent doctors is a good idea on SSA’s part. I think most doctors want their long-time patients to be happy and will do whatever they can to aid them in their claim.

Yes, cheating SSA is fraud...yet it happens every day.

just google it dear, this has been on the mind of the administration for a long time, people will also have to work for food stamps. This is going to be very bad for needy people with few other options.

I believe for the most part, people aren't paying attention until something effects them. A lot of folks on disability should be panicked. They will essentially have to prove all over again that they are disabled. A scary thought for anybody on any kind of social program.

What's even more galling is it's being done to try and close the deficit since the tax laws gave incredible advantages to the richest among us.
