My DD is almost 50, as she keeps reminding me. She has worked for the same attorney, at a large firm, for 25 years. He and his family are some of the nicest people I've ever met.

There is an answer due today and for the last week DD has been going in early and Saturday she went in all day. Last night was going to be a late night. Plus she left the house a 6:20 yesterday morning.

At 6:30 last night he asked her (lol) if she minded if he left. She laughed and reminded him he was the boss. She said she wanted to stay and get the hundreds of copies done along with the exhibits as today is the holiday party and a short day. Document has to be filed today.

He wanted to her to call him when she got home to make sure she was okay and when he left he found head guy of night maintenence and said DD was still working. He asked him to walk her to her car. DD said her car was 30 ft. from the door for Pete's sake.

Sure as heck, when got off the elevator on the main floor at 8:30 pm there was Sam with his coat to make sure she got safely to her car.

It's nice to know he looks out for my child, adult or not. He and his wife have very good to her. She sure lucked out in the boss department.

That’s so nice your daughter has a great boss and he looks out for her. I am a retired legal secretary and worked for a great attorney but your description of your daughter going in early and working late brought back bad memories - I’m so glad I’m now retired!

Actually, you got it backwards. HE lucked out in the employee department with your daughter. All he did was get someone to walk her to her car, big bleeping deal. Is he paying her overtime for all those extra hours she's putting in? Ensuring that someone walked her to her car after she worked so late is something that many employers do now. My company has offsite parking and the policy is that people leave on the half hour so that the security guard can walk them to their cars, men and women.

This is just how it should be. An employee who feels valued and safe in their environment is in a win-win situation -- for the individual, AND, the employer. Sadly, we're seeing fewer work environments providing such.

Good for your DD. It sure makes working OT a lot less painful when knowing efforts are recognized.
