A new survey reveals that luxury hotels have to deal with guests stealing mattresses more often than anyone would’ve guessed. According to the survey, conducted by Wellness Heaven, a hotel and spa reviewer, five-star hotels are actually more likely to see large items go missing as opposed to smaller, easier-to-conceal items.

A valid Scrabble word but it always makes me LOL for some reason. Back to the subject matter, I would not want to own a used mattress that came out of a hotel....bed bugs and lord knows what else.

I burst out laughing when I read the title. I could imagine a couple dragging a mattress past the reception desk and through the lobby and maneuvering it into their car...LOL This is one of those stories, I have trouble believing. However, I'm sure people do steal the coffee pots, irons, hair dryers, lamps. Things can can be easily concealed.

My husband's family owned a 300 room hotel/resort many years ago. My husband and I worked there right after we were married. I believe the mattress story. We had couches stolen as well as TVs and, yes, mattresses. Why anyone would want a used mattress is beyond me, but we caught many thieves and missed those who likely did their work when everyone else was asleep.

as bad as my husband's story on women taking a pregnancy test into the bathroom to find out if the rabbit died or not and then throwing in trash.

Used to work at the Walmart. Then people gripe about prices going up.

Honestly it really does sound like a stunt Lucy & Ethel would do. Maybe when they were in California and some big star slept on the bed. This is right up I Love Lucy souvenirs.

I also believe people stealing mattresses. About 2 weeks ago there was a security camera footage for a local hotel. The woman walked out with just about everything she could from the room in the hotel. There were footage of her walking out with the TV, all the bed linen and towels, lamps, chairs and the mini refrigerator. There was probably more but the footage could only be so long.

PS - She probably would have stolen the mattress if she could have handled it by herself. By the time she dragged the mini refrigerator out, she was tired and was running out of room in her car.

In fact this week, someone showed a picture of the lawn outside a hotel at Disney World. Kids must have been left by themselves all night. So they threw everything from the room out onto the lawn.

There are so many thieves now. They will steal anything and do it without fear because they know even if they get caught not much will happen to them.

You see it every night on the news.

At the high-end resort where I worked, guests removed the entire mini bar, took the plate glass mirrors off the bathroom walls.......and many other things, including rolling the ATM machine out the lobby entrance.............

Some of that appears to be on the hotels. From the article:

"Keilmann also said that he was surprised that guests would even attempt to steal large items, as it would be easy for the hotel to figure out who took the item. He also noted that five-star hotels are less likely to report the theft, however, because they seemingly don’t want to be connected with any crime."

@SharkE My resort was on 65 acres of hilly and wooded land. Our security was not there to imtimidate guests, and were unarmed. All they could do in a robbery was to call the police. Golf carts were another "hot item" for thieves, and security was not allowed to chase them off property. This is for the safety of the employees and guests. Above all, we don't want a "shooting incident" or an armed standoff. di

Oh.......I might add........thieves don't bother with the big-screen TV's........they know they don't run on household current..........(same for telephones)
