Do I Need A Contract

I know this isn't the right forum for my question, but this forum gets a lot of traffic and I wanted a quick answer. I'm going to buy the Fire HD 10" TSV, I wanted to know if anyone is going to purchase one of the two contracts? It's not much money, but is it really necessary? I usually don't buy contracts for electronics priced this low.

Extended warranties are generally a waste of money.

If something is going to not work, it will usually do so within the manufacture's warranty.

I wouldn't get one, personally

The only extended warranty I have ever purchased was back when I ordered my new cars. They came then with only a 1 year warranty. I knew I would sell them within 2 years so I bought a transferable 3 year warranty. Made selling my cars myself just 1 more good priced selling point.

I have owned at least 100 electronic devices over many decades, and I have never purchased 1 single extended warranty. Do I regret not doing so? Nope!

@Jordan2 , I agree with the others. No extended warranty. Money grab. I take good care of my electronics. If I have to replace one, I have already paid for it by not buying warranties on past purchases. LM

I just purchased the tablet in the blue color, I didn't get a contract. I'll get 15% back on my purchase buying through Rakuten.

You didn't say how much it is, so not sure what to say. (Maybe it's cheap enought to toss and buy a new one if it doesn't last very long?)

Previously, I never bought the extended contracts with electronics, etc., but I have now changed my mind. Electronics aren't made to last anymore.

Back in 2014-ish I purchased a Dell Laptop at QVC and skipped the contract. Well, by the time 3 years had passed, I'd spent more on service repairs etc than I paid for the darn laptop! At that point, I purchased the Best Buy's Geek Squad contract for $200 ..... and have really gotten my money's worth a few times! It covers a whole variety of devices, not just one item. I plan to renew it, just because.

Now, I just bought the HP TSV laptop in October (touch or no-touch versions) and within 6 weeks it worked very sluggishly .... come to find out, that Windows 10 S may help with viruses, but mine was filled with SPYWARE.

Two weeks later I had to call HP customer service because, I swear, the computer would not turn on. What a crazy conversation that was!

So, long story short, I'm taking the consideration of an extended contract on a case by case basis. As my Grandfather would say ..... They don't make them the way they used to!

@CelticCrafter you made me stop and think, do I need a case, no, I already have two (when I bought the 2017 Fire I got a free case from Caseable which was flimsy and I bought a better one). I cancelled my QVC order and bought the tablet from Amazon for $99.99. @Tinkrbl44 the tablet is selling for $119.99, cheap enough to just replace.

If you ever do decide to buy an extended warranty for anything, you had better read the fine print regarding replacements if necessary. Sometimes they make it so difficult in hopes people will just give up.

Amazon must have sold a boat load of this tablet, mine ships 12/21. It doesn't matter, it's for me. If this was a gift I would be concerned about getting it in time for Christmas.

I wouldn't. Technology advances so fast.....I'd rather fork over the cash for a new one rather than repair the "old" one.

My first ever kindle was just the reader and a gift from my DH. After a short while, 4 months, it stopped working. He did purchase the extended warranty. Took it to best buy where he purchased it and they replaced it completely.

Have also purchased warranties for refrigerators and dryer/washers. One time and it's paid for. New fridge (kitchen aid) had a part break and was leaking. Repairman came in and fixed it. We paid $175 for the warranty, the part and labor was $250. Same thing on a Maytag dishwasher, a shelf broke, they came in, repalced the part, said the parts put on appliances from the factory are cheap and replacement parts are better. Again, it paid for itself.

I always get contracts on big ticket items, this tablet is so inexpensive, if I get two years out of it I count myself lucky ( no contract for me).

The only thing I would consider buying extra is a 'drops and spills' coverage plan if they offer it, especially for a device like a tablet where it might get dropped. A TV or something that sits on a table may not need something like that but a device that you actually hold in your hands might be dropped and broken or left in a place where it could get damaged...sat on accidentally tossed into water....you get the idea.

The Square Trade offered is not an extended warranty. Square Trade is different and replaces or repairs due to accidents and wear. Warranty covers manufacturer's defects.

24 years ago I purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator from one of those box stores in Thousand Oaks, CA. The salesman was very, very pushy about selling me a warranty for $100. I agreed and when I got home, I called the store and cancelled. A few years later, the store went out of business. Well - the refrigerator lasted 24 yrs - never had a problem. A few months ago, the freezer part stopped working - and I went to Lowes and bought another Whirlpool refrigerator - and the salesman said it will last around 8 years.
I think it's worth buying a 3 year warranty on washing machines (especially if it costs $99) which Lowes charges. Just one visit from a repairman cost lots more.

I would buy the extended warranty because I think they would send you a new one instead of fixing it. And because the only fire tablet I bought didn't last.

The tablet is $99 on sale at Amazon. The warranty cost 25.00 for two years which @SilleeMee says is a repair warranty.

the hd fire tablet I looked at yesterday was on sale for 49.00 with a two year extended warranty for 19.99. it would be up to amazon whether they repaired it or gave you a new one if anything went wrong
