Social Security yearly letter?

Does the Social Security Administration usually send a letter each year letting the participant know what the new figures will be...cost of living increase? Does that same letter advise you of the amount taken out for Medicare? It's only the end of November so there is still plent of time for the letter to come.

If my DH gets and opens the mail he is usually very good about leaving everything out for me to read....buy maybe I missed it. Thanks.

You can go to the website the beginning of December and you can get your information. They send a letter in December. I read that Medicare will be $144.60 for 2020. Hope this helps.

I recently went to the SS website to order a new SS card. Because I used the site instead of stopping into an office I had to agree to forgo receiving a yearly letter and instead log into the website to view and/or print it from now on and won't receive it by reg. mail.

Yeah, early Dec. if I recall right. Medicare premium like the other gal said going to 144 and I think the Medicare Part B deductible that you pay before they pay out is going to 199 unless your supplement pays for it like mine does, but, Mutual of Omaha Plan F supplement is closing down end of Dec. I can keep it because I'm grandfathered in, but, no new applications will be taken. Probably faze it out eventually anyway.

Can you believe I found my old pay stubs from when I worked for the government at the Pentago back in 1965?

Talk about a different in pay!! Ha!

Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving. Again, thanks for the reminder.

I want to get a driver's license with the star on it. I just got a new one but I could only find one thing with my SSN on it. When I went looking I found these old pay stubs.

It says they'll accept those but I already waited in line for almost 2 hours to get turned down. This time I'll make sure I have more than 2 of everything they ask for.

@Miss Shelly I go the Medicare website often and you do not have to agree to go paperless if you use that site.

Going paperless is voluntary.

Cost of living increase is 1.6% for 2020. I opted not to get paper notification. I received an email a few days ago, logged into my account and all the info is there. I do not trust the mails.

@ sharke is correct. It's usually sent out in early December. And I've never had issues with the mail.

I am so glad this thread was started. I haven't received my notification and have been wondering why, now I know. A big 1.6%, wow, I can hardly contain my delight. Oh well, it's better than nothing. But, when you think about it, is it really an increase? Does it cover the increases we are getting or do we break even?

@Lindsays Grandma ....While waiting to get the letter from SS Administration, we were surprised to read that Silver Scripts has implemented a deductible for DH's drugs. I don't have the paperwork in front of me but the new charge is $300+! This is the first year he has had to pay a deductble up front before drugs were covered.

The monthly bill went down about $1.00-2.00....but wow, the deductible!

@Annabellethecat66you should be able to show your letter from Social Security to the DMV because that has your SS#. Even the one from last should be ok.

I received an email on Saturday. They tell you what the cost of living amount is, then they tell you the new deduction, then the amount you'll actually receive.

My "increase" is a joke! I already received my new amount for my 2ndary insurance and it it 4 times the amount of my cost of living increase per month!!

I got a text from SSA today. I elected to get e-mails & texts from them instead of snail mail. It's a little more dependable (for now).

Yes, Medicare will be $144.60. Cost of living increase is 1.6%.

@Annabellethecat66 All you need is your SSA 1099 for your 2018 taxes; it has your SS# top right of the form.. That is what I used and took to the DMV; you do not need to get a new SS card!

We haven't gotten the letter in several years. But, we do use the website. It's much more helpful than the letter, so I guess that's why I never noticed, lol.

In the state of PA, you must have a SS card...original, and not a copy. They will not accept anything else with your SS # on it.

I received an email from SS last week telling me to log on to their website for my annual update. I didn't yet.... but I always get a letter from SS every December. Usually, the SS increase is just enough to cover the higher cost of Medicare - they cancel out each other almost every year.
