I Have A Mouse In My House

I am freaking out, I saw a mouse in my house! This isn't the first time, I can take a lot, but mice really freak me out. I put down some traps, I don't know how I'll sleep tonight. I hope I catch the little bugger!

@Jordan2 I hate to say this, but usually it isn't just "one." They have friends and relatives with them.....

This is the time of year when they start coming in, when it gets cold. I live in an old house with quite a few cracks in the foundation as does everyone who lives on my street in an old, tree-lined neighborhood. My neighbor always says, "we live in a high mouse area" and he's right. Yes, put down traps and get them before they breed in your house. Ugh. But it's only a mouse, so get a good night's sleep.

Try to locate whatever food source it/they have found and get rid of it.

I feel your pain. Spotted one late afternoon and immediately went to buy traps for my husband to set. The dogs haven't alerted to anything this evening. I hate mice.

I hate them too. And, in addition to the ICK factor, they end up costing us in food or other things we need to throw out because they've been into it.

I can only imagine how upset you are. Those little boogers scare the chitlins out of me. I have only had one some years ago, and to say I was scared of it is an understatement. That was the scariest two days of my life. Fortunately, I did not have to kill him. I was shooing him with a broom and he ran away under the door. It was a Tom & Jerry moment. I never saw him again, and considered that to be a blessing. I certainly hope you catch him soon. Good luck!

Yes, it's that time of year since they want to hide from the cold. I had one a few years ago and he of course had a friend with him. Got both though. I highly recommend Tom Cat traps. It's like a box that has a plastic lever and when the mouse goes in, the door goes down and the flag goes down so you know it's in there. You won't ever see the mouse either. You''ll know by the flag being down that you go it. You won't have to look at it which is the best part. I took a reeses peanut butter cup and sliced it in half. Put a little more PB on top of that and both went into the traps. Worked like charm!

Organic mousetraps, otherwise known as cats, work very well. They will even present you with their little trophies!

Like some have stated, the most effective, organic, natural method to get rid of a mouse is a CAT. They (cats) kill them (mice). Nature is not always kind, but very effective.

I have a mouse in my garage. We have tried everything. Lol. He even gnawed through a bag last night that had some garden seed in it. Onion seed. Didnt like them for sure. He scattered them everwhere and left the peanuts near by.

I’m not scared of mice but my cat is!
I think the little buggers are cute. I occasionally get a little field mouse in the house. I only use a humane mouse trap.

Mousetraps are much cheaper than cats. 😄
I use Victor brand that snap shut and break their necks instantly. The worst part is disposing of the dead mouse in the trap with its limp long worm-looking tail hanging down. Ewwwwwww.

@Autumn Shimmers do you throw the whole thing out of do you release the dead mouse? Are these traps expensive?

In any case, we had a cat once that went out into a field near where we lived, caught a mouse, brought it in the house and turned it loose, then when the mouse would run across the floor would just look at it.

I was SO mad at that cat! We finally caught the mouse, but the cat had NO interest in it.

Why afraid? For one thing they carry diseases I wouldn't want to catch. For another. I wouldn't want to get bitten
Thet always do seem more frightened by me than I am of them but I don't want them in my house. At the very least they are destructive and at the most they are unhealthy. And they multiply so you need to get rid of them.

No, you throw the whole box away. I got my traps at a hardware store. I think ttey were maybe 5 or 6 dollars apiece.The salesman at a True Value Hardware store recommended them. My traps were the ones that said trap and contain. I remember there was a little flag you set the lever.

I have a cat that does that with snakes. He never learned how to kill but he's so excited when one of the baby garters living under the big flagstone in front of the laundry room door decides to explore and slithers into the house under the door. My cat picks that baby up and brings it upstairs to show me. He's so proud, his tail standing up straight, but I can't rest until I get the thing outside. The cat will wander around for half an hour, searching for his friend, till he gives up. Poor cat. Poor snake.

Animal visits are what happens when you live in the country.

The worst experiece was with one of those awful glue traps many many years ago. Got up early when the BF went to work and decided to vacuum. Fell asleep on the sofa. Woke up to find the husky in my face with his nose stuck to the trap. Then I looked to the side and saw the mouse tail hanging down near my cheek. He had grabbed the mouse (in the trap) and woke me up to let "them" out. Fasted I ever jumped off a piece of furniture and my heart was pounding so hard I didn't need a cup of coffee.

Wanted to edit my post because I went on TomCat's site and they do have various types of traps. The one I used a few years ago was excellent, however, it looks like the company may have redesigned it. It was called kill and contain. Some people weren't happy with the new version. However, if maybe you can find the oriignal version or another brand similar in design. The design of the trap is a hard plastic little container with a lever you set. Didn't know if you knew this, but not only do mice love peanut butter but they love chocolate. Yes, chocolate! I found this out when I used to work in a candy store. We had a few sneak in our storage room and ripped open our chocolate candy bars. They loved them. Our exterminator guy told us mice love chocolate. So Reeses is a great bait! Cut up a Reese cup and add extra peanut butter from a jar on top of it.
