Help to not hit shelf in Garage

Do you know of anything that can be done in the garage to keep from hitting shelfing unit that is at the end of the garage? It is mounted across the back wall of the garage and sometimes when I put vehicle in the garage I run into it. I am afraid if I keep doing this, I will knock it down lol. I try going slow and that does help a bit but still almost run into it. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Hang a ball from the ceiling with string,low enough to hit the windshield. When it does drive no further

when i had that problem, my husband hung a tennis ball attached to a string from the deiling...when my car hit the tennis ball, i knew to stop!!

Could you hang a string or something from the garage ceiling so that when you drive up to it you know to stop? I have seen people hang a tennis ball that touches the windshield when they stop at the proper place.

I use the side window of my garage to gauge my distance so that I know where to stop and park so that there is enough room to walk in front of the car.

@FlowerBear DH hung a yellow tennis ball from a string on the ceiling of the garage. It's aimed where my windshield should hit the ball and stop before I hit anything else. Lol

***Guess we all have balls hanging in our garages!!!

@FlowerBear. You could use the tennis ball trick. tie a ball to a string, attach it to the ceiling in a place where it touches your windshield before you touch the shelf.

Go to a place like Home Depot or Lowes or your local hardware store and go to the lumber area. Ask for a scrap piece of wood (the ones that are about 1" square and maybe 4 to 5 feet long). Put it down on your garage floor so your front tire hits the board and stops your car before you get to the end and bump your shelves. I have the same situation and this has worked for me for years. It might take a few tries to get it in exactly the right place and when you do, put a mark on your garage floor so if the wood gets moved you can just put it right back. DH often moves ours when he sweeps or uses the leaf blower to clean the gargage floor, but we have the spot marked on the floor with a permantent marker and just put the wood back where we need it easily. Hope that makes sense and helps solve your problem. They should not charge you much for the wood.

ITA with the tennis ball hanging from the ceiling where you need it to keep from hitting the shelf. At least it won't damage your car.

Yes to the tennis ball and the board. If neither of those work for you, you can line up with a marker on the side of the car. I used to have to park outside of the garage and had to worry about leaving enough room for the garage door to open (as an emergency exit) without hitting my car. I couldn't hang a ball from the sky and a board could have been a tripping hazard or moved when the car wasn't in place. We planted a tree to the side of the driveway so it was in a place where I could align my seat with the tree and it would always leave my car in the right spot.

Inside a garage, you can check alignment with a shelf, poster, or stripe aligned on the side wall.

You could put an object to the left side of the garage. When your steering wheel lines up to that object, you'll know it's time to stop and put it in park.

@Sooner i have an older car and sure would just love to afford to get a newer car im just thankful to have a car at all just hoping this car lasts for a long time lol.

i feel dumb how i keep hitting that shelf in the garage lol. even if i drive in so slowly!

Because of our driveway it is best to back in. I have done it but I am not comfortable doing it. My husband was quite nervous about my doing it. I now leave it in front of the door and he backs it in. Best for both of us. PS if he was watching - helping me I was worse.

i was going to do the tennis ball thing, but realized that i had a little teddy bear that belonged to one of my children. (it's not much bigger than a tennis ball) so i hung that little bear, and now he appears (arms outstretched) on my window in just the right spot whenever i park
