Princess Beatrice has become engaged to property tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The royal started dating the Italian property developer, 34, who is a father-of-one, in October last year.

Princess Beatrice's sister Eugenie posted her congratulations on Instagram and shared a photograph taken by herself of the happy couple, adding: 'Beabea - wow! I'm so happy for you my dearest big sissy and dear Edo.

'It's been a long time coming and you two are meant to be.'

Beatrice and Mr Mapelli Mozzi said in a statement: 'We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement.

'We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can't wait to actually be married.

'We share so many similar interests and values, and we know that this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.'

The engagement pictures, taken by sister Princess Eugenie, sees Beatrice wearing a green Zimmerman floral dress and showing off her engagement ring and a Cartier love bracelet.

A close-up of the ring designed by Eduardo and jewelery designer Shaun Leane shows a round cut diamond ring which is flanked by double baguettes on the band.

The pair got engaged during a romantic trip to Italy this month, which saw them staying in the exclusive cliffside village of Positano, on the Amalfi Coast.

Black and white pictures taken by Misan Harriman at Royal Lodge, Windsor Great Park show the pair cozying up to each other and giggling, and pulling playful faces.

Posting the pictures to his Instagram account, Eduardo added the touching tribute: 'You will never be alone my love, my heart is your home. Hand in hand, today, tomorrow and forever.'

The Cartier bracelet that Beatrice is wearing in both the color and black and white photos was engraved with an 'E' for Edoardo.

She was spotted wearing the bracelet in July, pictured below.

Who designed Princess Beatrice's engagement ring?

Princess Beatrice's bespoke platinum and diamond engagement ring by British jeweller Shaun Leane is worth up to £100k, according to an expert.

The royal, 31, who is engaged to property tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 34, showed off the stunning ring which is 'filled with personal and sentimental signifiers' in the official photographs taken by sister Princess Eugenie.

It is a fusion of Victorian and Art Deco designs and is accompanied by two additional matching bands, in distinctive Shaun Leane style.

'Princess Beatrice's is a beautiful engagement ring with a round brilliant cut diamond flanked by 4 baguette-cut diamonds,' said London Jeweller, Susannah Lovis.

'It is breath-taking particularly because all you can see is diamonds and the platinum band is hidden. It appears to be around 3.5 carats and would probably have cost in the region of £100,000.'

He's wearing sneakers with a suit!!! Heavens!

I posted this tongue & cheek remark to the posters who are always aghast at this trend of men (and women) pairing sneakers with nice dress clothes. They look great -- happy and in love.

I think this is the prettiest of all the royal engagement rings in the last couple of years. Beatrice gets more beautiful with each passing year and being in love she just looks breathtaking.
